Ok, here's my problem; I turn my key on and all the gauges come on. I try to crank the engine and it will not crank, doesn't click or anything, fuel pump doesn't come on either, nor does the security light. I checked my key resistance and my key switch, both are where they are suposed to be at. The car had been sitting for 5 years. I was thinking about changing the computer. I tried to start the car in nuetral and it wont start. I dont think it is the nuetral safety switch. Any help would be awesome.

Check the power at the starter, it should be 12 - 14 volts. Start with that and work your way back up the starting system.

New Battery or an old one?

Clean the terminals of a new battery, check your grounds make sure they are clean and tight. Make sure the motor has fluids... 5 years is quite some time.

I had the same problem. No crank, not even with a jump. Figured something must be bad since battery was only one season old. Charged battery...nothing. Took it back to NAPA and guess what? Bad battery. Put in a new one and it fired right up.

I always thought that a jump would overide a dead battery. From what I read from other posts, if the battery is dead, jump might not get the job done.

if the battery has a short it generally won't work. i had one that would start with the shorted battery, but wouldn't stay running
