Yeah I'm an idiot. We know that much. I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to $$, so what's the easiest way to get in a 93 Camaro? No, insurance won't cover it...

So I locked my keys in my carmr_wizard 03-23-2009, 11:44 PM Yeah I'm an idiot. We know that much. I'm pretty much screwed when it comes to $$, so what's the easiest way to get in a 93 Camaro? No, insurance won't cover it... mrmint69 03-24-2009, 01:24 AM I have used a coat hanger on other cars but it might be tough with these cars. I went to the deal gave them $5 and they made me a key. All I needed was the vin and proof of ownership. I work there otherwise it was $20. The Captain 03-24-2009, 02:59 AM Grab the top of the window and pull it out. Stick your hand down in there and unlock the door. If your arm is too big find someone who has small arms. The windows give a whole lot, its really easy to break into these cars. madhatter 03-24-2009, 03:30 AM I have had dealerships make me keys before. It was $12 when my sister locked her keys in her car. Like was said before you just need VIN and proof of ownership(title or registration). mr_wizard 03-24-2009, 08:59 AM Awesome suggestions, thanks guys. I'm going to try and pull that window back, I knew it was flimsy but I didn't think was that flimsy. If not, I'll try the dealership. Thanks. Z28Roxy 03-24-2009, 09:17 AM Here is the BEST way to do it I've found. It's pretty much a modification of thecaptain's technique. Get old shirt(s), rag(s), towel(s), etc... anything like that will work. Pull the window back with your hand. Ball up the shirt and stuff it between the window and the roof. Now the window is held open. Then take something long and skinny but with some weight to it, shove it down into the interior and hit the power lock button. Personally I never used my arm, I always just used the long metal rod from my toolbox. irocbsa 03-24-2009, 10:23 AM I did this on Saturday after I had a "Doh!" moment by pulling the window back with my fingers and using a stick I broke off a tree in the parking lot. I had to manually slide the lock handle since the battery had died on me. It took about three minutes to get the right angle. Injuneer 03-24-2009, 08:18 PM A slim jim opens it up in about 15 seconds. Slide it down between the rubber molding and the window, hook the rod for the lock button, and pop it. H2O 03-24-2009, 09:00 PM I locked my keys in the car 100 miles from home with no wallet and no cellphone. Had no tools. I took off the passenger wiperblade and used the metal insert in the blade to slim jim the car. Took about 1/2 hour, but i got it. it helped that I had the doorr panels off several times and could picture the internal working of the lock rod. Swear that this is true!! The windows give a whole lot, its really easy to break into these cars. remind me to keep my cars away from you... I normally use a doorstop, slide it into the window then attempt to hit the power button "unlock" with a heavy duty hanger or unlock kit. If you don't have power options make a really small L on the tip of a THICK hanger and move the lock button. Injuneer 03-24-2009, 10:47 PM Does anyone still have the plastic "card" with the fold-out spare plastic key on it..... they came with the cars when they were new. I haven't seen mine in about 5 years. mrmint69 03-25-2009, 09:23 PM I locked my keys in the car 100 miles from home with no wallet and no cellphone. Had no tools. I think I saw that episode of Macgyver. ;) rexcellent 03-25-2009, 09:55 PM Yea, I figured out the window trick when I locked the keys in my car one morning before church with it running , I used a yardstick though. Needless to say, I needed to go to my original destination after that to apologize for some choice language! shoebox 03-25-2009, 11:24 PM For that long, skinny thing you need to poke into the window opening, many people unscrew the antenna and use it. shock6906 03-26-2009, 07:34 AM Grab the top of the window and pull it out. I haven't seen mine in about 5 years. That's what I get for buying used cars... I didn't even know the Camaros had these! My grandma has one for her 01 Saturn. For that long, skinny thing you need to poke into the window opening, many people unscrew the antenna and use it. I think I used mine for it before. Works rather well! moparman 03-26-2009, 07:59 AM Does anyone still have the plastic "card" with the fold-out spare plastic key on it..... they came with the cars when they were new. I haven't seen mine in about 5 years. I've still got mine, except it's metal and slides into a thin plastic case. The whole works are so thin I can carry it in my wallet. The key looks funny compared to the actual key, but it works. l jetset9 03-26-2009, 06:35 PM I still have mine for the 97!!! (wallet key) alexss 03-31-2009, 12:37 AM Oh man... yeah go to the dealer and buyer your self a key like most of the people mention.. take your paper work.. good luck.. mr_wizard 04-02-2009, 02:45 PM So I ended up pulling the passenger window back a bit (it was more flimsy than the driver side) and popped off the end of a friends arrow (yes, from a crossbow) angled it down and manually unlocked the door. For some odd reason my auto door unlock button didn't want to work. Anyway, MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. RUDEDOG 04-02-2009, 04:09 PM Auto door locks will not work on these cars after RAP has timed out. yournamehere 04-02-2009, 11:28 PM Since we are on the subject, I received one key chain alarm remote, one ignition key and one door key when I bought my Camaro. The door key should be easy to get a spare, whats the story on remotes sold on eBay ? Difficult to program ? Good source for a spare ignition key ? I've thought about this for years, but my Z28 is the first vehicle I've owned with power door locks/alarm so the keys are in my hand when I lock it. I really like the idea of a spare though. sallmon 04-03-2009, 01:30 AM I ordered an original Chevy replacement remote and an aftermarket one. I LOVE the after market remote! It is smaller than the original, was just as easy to program, and has the same functions. The one I bought came from ikeyless.com and was actually a bit chaper than an original Chevy remote for my 1995 Z. I don't have factory alarm, so can't tell you how it would work there, but I have been very satisfied. | ||
