What all can you determine option wise by the VIN?

I happened to find a Z nearly just like the one that was wrecked. ITs in another post, 93 z28 Red M6. I found one just like it but the stock stereo is missing (some aftermarket deal was put in :cry:) and also have installed a 4.10 rear end gear and didnt recalibrate the speedo. I was wondering if I could tell by the VIN if it had the delco bose with the CD player or just had the am/fm and cassette. Was also wondering if I could tell which rear end gear ratio came in the car from the factory. My Z that was wrecked was completely stock engine/tranny/gear wise and tached 1250 or so RPM's at 60 mph whereas this car even though its not really going 60 mph, tachs 60 mph at nearly 1500-1550. So im thinking the 2 cars either had a different 6th gear ratio or had a different rear end gear. Any way to tell which was a M28 or M29? Any help is much appreciated.

The only thing you can derive directly from the VIN is whether its a V8 or a V6, and the model year.

If you give the VIN to a dealer, he should be able to find all the data on the vehicle, including the options.

You need to look at the "RPO" build code tag. It has the 3-character codes for all the options on the car, and specific build data like spring selection, rear axle ratio, etc. The label is typically on the end of the driver's door, or in the glove box.
