tech and other automotive walkthroughs?

Everything from how to replace an alternator on an LS1 to how to rebuild a V6 to how to paint a car.

A how-to section might work...I would split it up into tech, exterior, and interior though.

We already have forums for those things. :)

True the tech sections, appearance, etc do address this kind of stuff, but they also address things like:

Need build advice for 11 sec n/a car
Why is the car making x noise and y vibration after my header install
Car won't start, help!!!!1111
What are some good products to maintain my paint

I'm thinking more a section where no replies are allowed, just walkthroughs of header installs, motor builds, painting, interior touchups, etc etc.

That way you can go to the appropriate section and search for "header" or "headers" and see only posts with walkthroughs, rather than people asking about a specific problem they are having with their headers or which headers to buy, etc. They could be a subsection of each appropriate tech forum.

you could do that in a sticky in teh existing forum or you could make a subforum in the tech forum and have it contain useful stuff liek you mentioned

just go buy a chilton manual or service manual. got lots of walk throughs in there.
one thing about typing up walk throughs is that a lot of people have many different methods and tips for doing a certain task such as pulling an engine from the top or bottom, or dropping the tank or trap door method for a fuel pump. then you get everyone wanting it edited and putting their two cents in and it begins to look like the tech forums.
maybe next time someone works on their car they can take lots of pics and explain it in a blog. then maybe have a tech walkthrough blog section.

We'd stick all sorts of cool threads like that, but we'd need to get people to write them first. That's the real issue.

Might as well just put a link to shoebox's website at the top of each forum. ;)

We have all kinds of stickies in the Tire/Wheel Section with alot of info, but people still ask the same questions, that is referenced in the stickies....

And when you inform them of the stickies, they get upset...:shrug::irk::confused:

If they want answers, they should be happy someone was one step ahead of them with an answer ready. If they get bent out of shape, at least they still get their answer. :)
