Fireball1 03-02-2009, 07:31 PM I'm not sure when the press embargo ends, but we'll probably know if these predictions are accurate or not in a couple weeks:
2010 Camaro SS 6-speed manual
0-60: 4.4 sec
0-100: 11.0 sec
1/4-mile: 12.8 sec @ 110 mph
60-0: 112'
Skidpad: .92g
Slalom: 70 mph
MPG: 18
The above would be the most optimistic test results from a magazine that uses a 1' roll out and applies an environmental correction factor to the tested numbers as does Car and Driver magazine.
97z28/m6 03-02-2009, 07:44 PM 0-60: 4.4 sec
 i hope so but doubtful.
Logansneo 03-02-2009, 08:03 PM I think that's probably going to be pretty close to what we see, especially if what GM spokespersons have already said about achieving a 4.6 second 0-60 with launch control on, and that it could probably go quicker than that (from the Indy 08 event).
Depending on rubber I don't see the Camaro having a problem breaking .95 lat G but we'll have to see. I do think that both V6 and V8 cars need mildly deeper gears, especially so the V6 can properly compete with the likes of the Genesis coupe and the 370Z, though the Nissan will probably compare closer with the SS.
97z28/m6 03-02-2009, 08:07 PM one quick mofo for sure.:):yes::metal::burnout:
8Banger 03-02-2009, 08:54 PM With a competent driver I see a 12.8 for sure. Be advised your results will likely be slower due to the fact that most up here probably suck at drag racing. Me included. :)
97z28/m6 03-02-2009, 08:56 PM i did a 13.8 in my 97 in my 3rd try. didn't think that was too shabby.:)

You daaaaamn straight!

For a 97 LT1, yeah that's not too shabby at all. Very nice.
97z28/m6 03-02-2009, 09:07 PM You daaaaamn straight!the worst thing is once i drive a 6sd manual SS i know all my nitpicking will mean squat.:o
Steve0 03-02-2009, 10:05 PM Quartermile... 12.8 @ 112 with a 6 speed.
All other stats I'd imagine would be right on par with the G8 GXP.
yellow_99_gt 03-02-2009, 10:12 PM imo, it has the power for mid 12's but the torque management and sorry 3.45 gear with a 28" tire is gonna hold it back. my predictions:
13.1 @ 109 avg car mag
13.3 @ 108 edmunds
13.7 @ 105 some guy on youtube
14.1 @ 99 somebody on pinks or pass time
12.8 @ 110 great driver in good air
12.6 @ 112 first shop to tune and test it

12.8 @ 110-112 probably Motor Trend.

I generally agree with that based on the gears in the GXP, but the curb weight, weight distribution, track width, wheelbase, and height of the Camaro I feel are going to allow it to outperform the GXP in handling and all around agility.
boomer78 03-02-2009, 11:56 PM 12.8 (on a good day) - 13.4
depending on driver

Again, it's all speculation at this point. But Motor Trend (http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/sedans/112_0902_2009_pontiac_g8_gxp_first_test/transmissions_specs.html) got the GXP to do the 1/4 mile in 13.0 @ 109.6 mph while Edmunds (http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Drives/Followup/articleId=136306) were only able to achieve 13.4 @ 105.9 mph. Edmunds tests outside Phoenix, Arizona and Motor Trend does it's tests in and around Irvine, California, so there's definitely an altitude issue.
Capn Pete 03-03-2009, 07:32 AM Hmmm, my '02 Z28 w/headers and 3.90 gears pulled a 12.8 @ 110 .
Damn that heavy weight, eh?! :p
I'm sure the car can be made to work well. I think the torque management is probably WAY too aggressive, and once the programmers figure out how to get around it, the car will wake right up .
I'm still not sold on drive-by-wire either ... I think a manual throttle cable is still the most effective means of instant gratification .
2010_5thgen 03-03-2009, 08:29 AM that prediction sounds good to me. hopefully your right.

pretty bad that 8 years later and 426hp it isn't any quicker.
Capn Pete 03-03-2009, 10:52 AM I know ... I've VERY curious to see the real world numbers, and see what kind of effect tuning will have on the new Camaros .
I offered to bring my '02 to our neighbour's the next time he brings a car home and line them up ;). I don't think he was keen on the idea? Can't understand why?

well as little as am item gears and headers may be, they do help the car out quite a bit. alot more power from the headers and the gearing being changed really helps with the 1/4 mile and 0-60 time. do the same to the new camaro and im sure it will be a significant improvement also./
