As the title says, im wiring up a pioneer HU to my 97 with monsoon sound. Can I do it with an adaptor? Do I have to cut the factory plug off and wire on the pioneer one? (god i hope not) And if theyre is an adaptor, who makes it. Thanks for helpin the tard, lol. Eric L

I just did that. The pioneer should have a plug with some wires in the box and you can buy its counterpart that fits the GM harness. Soldering the whole thing up is relatively simple and no cutting is necessary. The stereo (AVIC-F700BT) works with the monsoon amp and CDT speakers without a hitch.

Thanks for the reply. Should any aftermarket stereo work with the monsson stuff? Thanks again, Eric L

If you wire the adapter right any aftermarket stereo should work.

Thanks a bunch for the info. Any idea where I could find a wiring schematic for my 97 Camaro SS monsoon sound system? Thanks Eric L

Where did you get the HU??? I would go back and ask if they have the adapter.

I've purchased them at Best Buy before, or any other Car Stereo Shop should have what you need. You can also find them online @ OnlineCarStereo.com (http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/) or Crutchfield.com (http://www.crutchfield.com/), but shipping will be as much as the adapter itself:(

The pinout for the GM adapter is printed on the packaging it comes in. The one for the pioneer adapter is in the manual and on little tags on each wire.

Thanks for the replys guys, its an older Pioneer HU (Probably from 1998 or 99) IIRC Pioneer changed their plugs after that didnt they? Its nothing special, but it has always worked well puts out decent power, and isnt smart enough to confuse me, lol Thanks Eric L

I would still get the Harness for the Factory Side to plug-in, then you can just solder the Harness wires onto the correct HU wiring.

Hopefully you have the manual (Or Stickers on wires) for the HU so you can at least know which wires are which on the HU side. Harness should be clearly labeled.

Thanks for the replys. Yeah, after all these years I still have the manual (lucky, lol). Another stupid question, if my HU is set up for 4 speakers, how would i go about wiring in all 6 of mine? Thanks Eric L

A small amp using the out on the HU? would be the easiest way without having to splice wires together, and potentially running into issues with the HU later on.
