NHRA requirements:

-Hoop can not be more than 6" behind the driver's helmet.
-Hoop must be at least 3" above driver's helmet (hard to do with a 4th Gen, and often not enforced)
-Rear braces can not be attached more than 5" below top of hoop.
-Side bar must pass the drivers arm midway between the shoulder and the elbow.
-Crossbar and rear braces must be welded to hoop.
-Swingout sidebars allowed, with correct hardware.
-Crossbar height must be no more than 4" below driver's shoulders, and not above shoulders.
-Cars without frame (e.g. 4th Gens) use 6" square, 1/8" thick plates on both the top and bottom of the floor, bolted through the floor with at leat four 3/8" bolts.
-Alternatively, the hoop can be supported on a plate that is welded to the rocker sill.
-Welding must be free of slag.
-No grinding of welds is permitted.
-Roll bar must be padded anywhere driver's helmet can make contact with it.
-Padding must have a minimum of 1/4" compression, or meet SFI 45.1.
