what about blue?
97z28/m6 02-26-2009, 06:10 PM what about it?
My Red 93Z-28 02-26-2009, 06:17 PM There was also a first gen Camaro with a blue stripe (although it wasn't a racing stripe) that paced the Indy 500.
Either way...this paint scheme looks a lot better than the one it had for the Daytona 500

Don't know if I agree with that, but I am still happy that the Camaro is a p/c again at Indy.

i would.
Chevycobb 02-26-2009, 06:27 PM I like it! looking forward to watching the honda racing league(for the time being) with this car pacing it at indy :thumb:

:blahblah::p
That means there will be a lot of them driving around Indy the closer it gets to May...I'll have to start carrying a camera with me. I'll definitely get some pics when I'm there for practice and qualifying :thumb: COME ON MAY 6TH!
97ss30th 02-26-2009, 06:31 PM looks like the "custom" stickers in a need for speed video game
GDANESS 02-26-2009, 06:43 PM Too bad the convertible wasn't ready as white with orange stripes would have been great. Anyone know why neither of the pace cars have had the SS emblem on the rear?

I believe they are only making the 2 or 3 actual pace cars and no festival cars.

That would suck...there's always Corvette pace cars driving around...it's pretty cool when one pulls up next to you.

maybe we can go for 2 pace cars of the same generation again later on
but that is a good question about the emblem
79Zee28 02-26-2009, 07:23 PM Awesome!!! This will be my first visit to Indy and I'm taking my kids. This trip is also a reunion of sorts with my H.S. buddies. I was telling them all that the Camaro would pace. Then, after reading many post, I told them that it may be the Corvette instead. (They busted my balls for a few days). Now I can say, yeah, I was right!
FiefSS 02-26-2009, 08:59 PM Awesome that they are using it.. maybe next year we will get the convertible with the right colors on the car!

You mean like this one? ('67 BTW)

http://www.camaropacecars.com/Owners/MikeLakin/Drvwy1.jpgMy favorite Camaro of all time! :metal:
There's a "farmer" up here in northern California that collects old Chevies (Mostly Corvettes and Camaros) who has one of the pace cars that actually worked the race. Replicas were sold mainly based on the SS-350, however the cars that actually paced the race were SS-396s.
Always been my 1st choice on the "if I ever win the lottery" list, followed closely by a numbers matching 67 Z/28. :D

You kinda have a thing for the '67s don't you :p
jg95z28 02-27-2009, 12:47 PM You kinda have a thing for the '67s don't you :pYes! :D
The odd thing is the first Camaro that got me interested in cars was a '68 SS/RS-396, and my first Camaro was also a '68. (RS).
Looking at the other photos of this year's Indy pace car, it appears to be a 2SS/RS LS3/M6. If GM were to offer "replicas" with those trim options, I'd actually buy it! :p
Wingboy_97 03-02-2009, 02:03 PM I would personal go with the white with orange huggers, just like the 69. I think Chevy was trying to make it differant style just like they did in 82 and 93.
Chevycobb 03-02-2009, 02:19 PM who comes up with the paint scheme? is it GM or Chevy? or is it some marketing group for IRL or Indianapolis motor speedway?

From the original article,
The car carries a bold paint scheme for the Indianapolis 500, created by GM Design.
JasonD 03-02-2009, 04:19 PM I may have to see it in person, but I am not as big of a fan of this one that I hoped to be.
99SilverSS 03-02-2009, 04:50 PM I'm glad Chevy has chosen to pace Daytona and Indy with the Camaro. The paint schemes could have been more inspired but these are hard times at GM.

This i'm on the fence about.
I know a lot of people wanted the white with orange stripes, and that would look pretty cool, but this is not a 1969 Camaro. This 2010 Camaro needs to stand a part from the others and not be drawn into that "lets bring back the 60's" look. This is a modern car, with modern looks, and modern power.
Maybe when a convertible is available they can do one for nostalgia reasons, but for the first time around with the 5th gen, im glad it stands out from the rest.

Wow, coming from Mr. Optimistic -- that's some major criticism:)
I'm afraid times truly are hard. Still, both of these pace cars are lame. I couldn't imagine driving one on a regular basis. I totally agree that the orange/white combo should be saved for a convertible, but the white/blue combo would have been cool.
97z28/m6 03-02-2009, 06:06 PM well even ANY color with ANY stripe would be better....

Chevycobb 03-02-2009, 07:03 PM just looking back at the pace cars for the Indy500
http://www.indy500.com/pacecars/
looks like GM started doing odd paint schemes with the 1993 camaro. I personally didn't like that paint scheme while other did. before then they were pretty much just a car of the showroom floor with "official pace car" on the side
The final 7 of 25 Festival Camaros came in and all got their graphics yesterday. There are pictures here: http://camaropacecars.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/98910554/m/896108421
Thank you Lee for the heads up and pictures!
