Don't know if I agree with that, but I am still happy that the Camaro is a p/c again at Indy.

There was also a first gen Camaro with a blue stripe (although it wasn't a racing stripe) that paced the Indy 500.ok but the 5th gen takes its design from the 69 model.

That means there will be a lot of them driving around Indy the closer it gets to May...I'll have to start carrying a camera with me. I'll definitely get some pics when I'm there for practice and qualifying :thumb: COME ON MAY 6TH!

That would suck...there's always Corvette pace cars driving around...it's pretty cool when one pulls up next to you.

Awesome!!! This will be my first visit to Indy and I'm taking my kids. This trip is also a reunion of sorts with my H.S. buddies. I was telling them all that the Camaro would pace. Then, after reading many post, I told them that it may be the Corvette instead. (They busted my balls for a few days). Now I can say, yeah, I was right!

Awesome that they are using it.. maybe next year we will get the convertible with the right colors on the car!

There's a "farmer" up here in northern California that collects old Chevies (Mostly Corvettes and Camaros) who has one of the pace cars that actually worked the race. Replicas were sold mainly based on the SS-350, however the cars that actually paced the race were SS-396s.

Always been my 1st choice on the "if I ever win the lottery" list, followed closely by a numbers matching 67 Z/28. :D

The odd thing is the first Camaro that got me interested in cars was a '68 SS/RS-396, and my first Camaro was also a '68. (RS).

Looking at the other photos of this year's Indy pace car, it appears to be a 2SS/RS LS3/M6. If GM were to offer "replicas" with those trim options, I'd actually buy it! :p

I would personal go with the white with orange huggers, just like the 69. I think Chevy was trying to make it differant style just like they did in 82 and 93.

This i'm on the fence about.
I know a lot of people wanted the white with orange stripes, and that would look pretty cool, but this is not a 1969 Camaro. This 2010 Camaro needs to stand a part from the others and not be drawn into that "lets bring back the 60's" look. This is a modern car, with modern looks, and modern power.
Maybe when a convertible is available they can do one for nostalgia reasons, but for the first time around with the 5th gen, im glad it stands out from the rest.

I'm afraid times truly are hard. Still, both of these pace cars are lame. I couldn't imagine driving one on a regular basis. I totally agree that the orange/white combo should be saved for a convertible, but the white/blue combo would have been cool.

well even ANY color with ANY stripe would be better....

looks like GM started doing odd paint schemes with the 1993 camaro. I personally didn't like that paint scheme while other did. before then they were pretty much just a car of the showroom floor with "official pace car" on the side
