JasonD 06-21-2002, 12:03 PM You might notice new ads at the the top. I am sure I don't have to go into the reson why we have ads. http://web.camaross.com/bb/rolleyes.gif
Anyway, this is something we are trying out to see how it works. There might be some annoying ones here and there, some almost blind you, and we do not like them either so we will try to weed them out if possible.
Do us a favor the click the crap out of them if you don't mind. If this goes well, it will be a great benefit to the site and could eliminate the need for pop-ups.
*crosses fingers*
Thanks to all...we appreciate the cooperation, the help and the reporting of any bugs that you may encounter.

do the advertisers see how many clicks they get and will that affect how much they pay or anything, or they will just keep placing ads here?</font>
Yes, if the click through ratio is low, they will not see any benefit to showing them. For networks like the one on top, some of the ads are pay-per-click and others are pay-per-impression, measured in increments of 1,000. We are lucky if we see 50 cents per 1,000 impressions, and even then those rates are rare. Other times they are default banners when they run out of "paid" ads to deliver. Those suck.
<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">lets say one of us stayed up all night clicking the hell outa the banners...would it affect anything really? or would the advertisers just think"wow this ad is really effective"</font>
It could actually hurt us becasue some are grabbing the IP address and recording it making it so no matter how many times someone clicks it, we only get credit for it in (for example) a 24 hour period.
The online ad game is a VERY hard game to play. It is not 1996 anymore. it used to be where ads would get you $25-$35 per 1,000 shown. This was long before we even needed advertisers here, I am alsmot sorry to say.
Now, ads just do not pay like they used to...at least not on our level. Nobody here is getting rich off them, that is for sure.

96speed 07-01-2002, 10:42 AM A serious question: What would it take to make Cz28 a money maker?
More advertiser like the sprinks stuff?
Moving a TON of Cz28 gear/merchandise?
More people - bring in more sponsors?
????
????
All of the above?
None of the above?
I don't see how an internet message board could really generate any substantial cash flow, but what would it take to get this thing to pump out a couple hundred extra bucks a month?

Not really. It might help a little, but the complaint factor really puts a backward spin on it.

Yeah, that would definitely help, but we only make a buck or two off each shirt.

More people here means more traffic, which means more data transfer (bandwidth). This means more cost to us. We get charged by the gigabyte of data. We transfer over 500 gigs a month. I am sure you realize by this that the bigger this site gets, the more expensive it is to run. There are only so many vendors out there. Most of them will say they cannot afford to pay for a month of advertising here (which is about a quarter of the average new Camaro payment) but I see the same vendors taking out ads in magazines that costs thousands. Each vendor ad gets seen here between 5,000 and 10,000 times DAILY here. That is a quarter of a million times a month. This might not be as much as the circulation of some magazines, but the difference in cost-per-display is crazy. They cannot set up GPs in a magazine, they cannot interact with their customers on a 24 hour basis in magazines, either.

Anything helps, really. That is why we try like crazy to make ends meet. It is truly a full-time job.
We do have a couple of things planned for the future that -might- help, but we are not even sure they even will work.

formula79 07-01-2002, 02:50 PM It is crazy being in the website business because you want alot of traffic to be sucessful, yet on the flip side it can get really really expensive.

Even though none of us *really* know how much you guys do behind the scenes, some of us totally appreciate it.
Good luck.

Eddie95Z28 09-25-2002, 12:40 AM I click the ads... mostly to support the site. And I will be donating for an avatar and then some as soon as I find a cool enough pic. BUT my question is. Is there anyway to make the ad pop up in a new window... so I can ignore it and continue to browse this site. some of them do this.. but not all....
