Ambient Lighting

Ok so i have not heard anything in a while. So will the production camaro's have ambien't lighting or not?

No because every car that has had it and that the public has had access to has had the lit panels covered with opaque black cloth. GM doesn't want you to see it yet.

yeah i saw that video of it. i think there is a video of the orange and the blue lighting. i can t wait to see it in person.

ah, I remember that video, but that was probably the first "get in" car with Ambiant Lighting, and since all the equipted cars have the black cloth hiding it. That car was probably the cause.

I just wonder if there are going to be any controls for the lighting by itself. It is fairly easy to get those lights to do a lot more than just glow. If not from the factory than at least they are in there and can be modded after that.

Fair enough, but I begin to wonder. A little off topic, but I asked about the sport/comp and launch control feature and haven't received any kind of answer yet. All of those are "supposed" to be on the car. We'll see, I hope there aren't a whole lot of those 15,000 plus orders that are unhappy on delivery because the vehicle was marketed with certain features that aren't available and the price doesn't come down just a little.

To my knowledge the door and dash panels are not supposed to be black cloth covered. They are plastic. Most likely silver unless you get beige interior or the IOM package.

ive been wondering about that launch control too. i hope its not just traction control.
ive asked about it before and for some reason it slips through the cracks.

I've heard they're still working on the ambient lighting. I would expect to see it. I think they're trying to iron out some bugs with the system :shrug:.

There hasn't been an official answer if the ABL will be ready when the orders get built yet.

I would assume if they are still ironing out the bugs that they can't make production on the first few models this close to go doing down the assembly line. We shall see, its a mystery!!

Well I guess its a good thing I have to wait (due to financial reasons). Because I really want ABL. (and a convertible, but may not be willing to wait THAT long)

Silver SS at Pittsburgh Auto Show had Ambient Lighting, and was not covered at all. The girl inside the ropes was taking pictures for people of the full inside. They must not being too secretive about it. I got a picture of the ambient lighting on the door, but its not great (taken with my phone). I think on a personal note, Ambient Lighting was a bit too much.

Can't tell from the picture that is has ABL. But if you think it was a bit too much, then the good news is you don't HAVE to have it.

its a cool idea but the plastic looks tacky and like the mustangs "my color" i think it would get kinda old after awhile...

No, but I've had a few loaners for Parades. I got to drive them for the weekend. Couldn't stop playing with the My Color. Love it. Just having the option to change the color of your interior lighting on a whim is awesome. Because I HATE the green that Ford uses on all of thier other cars. And for the record, I would ONLY own a Mustang if the Camaro and Challenger weren't around.

I do think the Blue ABL would look alot better than the one that was in the Silver SS. I saw red lighting & seats, but I was informed that it was only available in Orange & Blue. I guess that could be Orange.

One more thing, just some info. The Pittsburgh Auto Show was from Feb 12-15. The Silver SS above had ABL on the Dash and Doors. I dont know if that means anything or not, just sayin.

it is orange. its called inferno orange metallic. the leather is the same thing. you get IOM lighting when you upgrade your interior to the IOM package. if it were red i would be all over it.

I am still wondering if you were to install those colored door and dash panels, if the ABL would change color from the standard blue or orange colors. I know that there was some rumors that the blue color would change to a purplish color if the Victory Red panels were installed...but if you look closely at those GM press pics of the colored panels, it appears that the ABL pipes look to be above the panels, and not behind them. I guess we will find out soon enough. I actually like the standard silver ones that are part of the black leather interior.

the ambient lighting on the S550 is one of the things that made my Dad want it so much. MB did a very good job with it. It is designed so that you don't see the lights, but there is light where you want it that does not distract the driver at all. The intensity/brightness of the lighting is also adjustable.

I should go over to my parents some night and make a video of the lighting.

That is what I thought. So if someone buys the colored trim kits, it would not change the color of the blue or orange ABL then? The VR ones might look good in my VR car, but I do really like the look of the standard silver ones!

I believe the lights would have to be "white" and the panels themselves would be colored to change the lighting.

you could buy a used C6 then like I am considering anyway over a Camaro. I'm having a hard time getting into the idea of buying new and on top of that the C6 looks great from any and all angles...the Camaro well...doesn't. I want to love it, but just don't yet. anyway...just saying a vette wouldn't necessarily be out of your price range...

yea my first love is the Camaro too and for the last 2 years I thought I would buy a new one which makes my decision that much harder. it's funny because I think the rear of the Camaro is a little odd...too tall, weird bump out in the bumper that wasn't on the concept, etc. i think the Vette rear is better than the Camaro :shrug: :lol:
