So what does a niche Pontiac look like?

Just G8 and Solstice? Will both cars be around in 5-10-20 years as the market changes? What if gas goes to $5 a gallon? What happens to solo Pontiac dealers and Pontiac heavy dealers?

Pontiac is already Dead Man Walking. Just finish it off already. I don't even want to get started on my thoughts on GM's loan request this morning...

Chrysler looks like a bargain by comparison.

I have a feeling Pontiac will be called Holden soon.

I have a feeling that the "real" Pontiac will only survive through the life cycle of the current Solstice and G8. Once those are done, I think Pontiac will be too.

They'll continue the consolidation of Buick/Pontiac/GMC dealers and then once they're all combined phase out Pontiac.

Or, they may do what none of us want them to do and end up with just the G3 and the G5 so that Buick/GMC dealers have an "economy" car to sell.

I have a feeling Pontiac will be called Holden soon.I think you may be close to the truth.

They'll still be called Pontiac here in the states, but I suspect the 1-2 models they are talking about are basically rebadged 2 and 4-door RWD Holdens. (Think GTO and G8).

I honestly don't think Solstice has a future... at least as a Pontiac.

If Saturn is dead, and Buick is getting all the cool Opel products, we might see a Buick Sky somewhere down the road... at least it would help with their "old-codger" image problems. :p (I guess the Saturn Sky could easily become a Buick Skylark. ;) )

I don't think Pontiac will get any new investment or new models.

The Kappas don't have a future PERIOD, but the Solstice will stay with Pontiac until the Kappas die a few years from now. It's only one of two cars that make some sense for the "performance" division.

Why keep Pontiac at all if you're going to give one of their two performance cars to Buick?

This.

The G8 will probably stick around for a while because supposedly Holden makes a profit even at small volumes. But otherwise Pontiac will be nothing but rebadges with very little marketing support.

Do you think GM could sell the Pontiac name to Holden? And would they want to do it?

Why keep Pontiac at all if you're going to give one of their two performance cars to Buick?I don't consider the Solstice to be a performance car. GTO (Holden Monaro) and G8 (Holden Commodore), yes.

GM could economically sell rebadged Monaro's and Commodores as "Pontiac"s in Buick-GMC dealerships as "special" edition performance cars, regardless of where they're manufactured. (AU or NA.)

I don't consider the Solstice to be a performance car.

Then you need to re-examine your definition of a performance car.

Then you need to re-examine your definition of a performance car.The Solstice is a sportscar, by definition. ;)

I don't think Pontiac will be around much longer. When the current G8 and Solstice die, I am betting Pontiac dies too. If they want to keep importing holdens, make it an Impala. If Buick wants an Opel Roadster, I think it would be ok.

I think in 3 years, GM will realize Buick is not working and starts spending money bringing Pontiac back.

It's all a big circle.

Saturn has great dealers and a cool image, lets spend money on it, and gut Buick to three models

Oh..no now Saturn is not selling..and it's seperate dealerships cost to much...lets axe it and spend money on Buick because the Chinese love it..and then we can mothball Pontiac

and in 3 years...

Oh most American's won't buy something called a Buick..so lets gut it and leave it to China. Then we can spend money to bring Pontiac back to a full line since it had a cool and exciting image.

Assuming GM lasts 3 years...

GM will realize Buick is not working and starts spending money bringing Pontiac back.

The first half of your sentence is correct; the last half isn't.

The Solstice is a sportscar, by definition. ;)

And the Sports Car Club of America (they used to have this little race series called Trans Am) probably figures a sports car is a performance car. They often perform pretty well :D

So Formula79, your saying in 3-5 years we could see a Firebird again :)
