On one hand, this would be an awesome stepping stone to get Fiat/Alfa cars back into the U.S. market.
On the other hand, what the flip does Chrysler have to offer other than a springboard into the U.S. market?
My Red 93Z-28 02-10-2009, 07:42 PM Fiat/Alfa are already planning to come back to the U.S. market around 2011/2012...whether or not that is with Chrysler I don't know.

Chrysler is already in manufacturing partnerships with Nissan and Volkswagen, and still has a link with Mitsubishi.
The next Nissan Titan will be done by Chrysler on the Ram structure & manufactured on a Dodge Ram assembly line in Mexico. Volkswagen's minivan was also done by Chrysler, and is made on the same assembly line as Chrysler & Dodge minivans here in the US. The current Avenger and Sebring sedans are built on Mitsubishi's LS platforms.
Chrysler offers alot actually. In addition to plant capacity, they offer an established dealer network. Chrysler also produces vehicles that would complement any brand lacking in mid & full sized cars. Chrysler still has a design studio and a product development system that is both short and quick by industry standards. Chrysler also has a network in Australia & Europe, along with at least 3 plants in Europe and Egypt.
What Chrysler is getting from Fiat in this trade is a small car architecture. Chrysler already has a engine & drivetrain partnership with Kia, Hyundai, and Mitsubishi (I think that's all of them) for the new 4 cylinder engine that's under the hood of the new Genesis coupe and will soon be under the hoods of alot more than that.
Quite a few things Chrysler has to offer a small car company wanting to get back into the US or complement it's lineup.
BTW: The Chrysler Sebring and Avenger replacements have been moved to 2012. 2011 will bring the new 300 & Charger according to the latest word.
That's calender years, not model years.

I understand the plants and their placement guionM, but honestly, look at Fiat and Alfa's lineup of cars and tell me that a Chrysler is better than the Fiat/Alfa's already in that segment.
The Fiat 500, Alfa Brera, and even 8C are better cars for each segment compared to just about anything DCX.
Jeeps, Minivans, SUVs are something that Fiat doesn't do, but how Chrysler has almost any car other than the SRT-10 that's better than a Fiat/Alfa I just don't see.

Pocket rocket extreme. It'd be a tough choice between a VW Polo, Ford New Fiesta, and the Fiat 500.
My Red 93Z-28 02-10-2009, 10:36 PM Wow, I didn't know Chrysler had so many partnerships with different companies...that's pretty diverse.

Guy,
You're close.
VW's Routan is a slightly reskinned version of the Chrysler minivan.
However, it's not built in the States. It's built at Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario plant.
As a matter of fact, no Chrysler minivans are built in the States anymore.
Chrysler closed the St. Louis South minivan plant this past fall.

Unless Abarth makes a US presence.

Too bad it won't get here for at least two years. Hope Chrysler is still around by then.
BTW, is that a PS or do they really sell an Abarth version?
EDIT: Nevermind, google is my friend. :D

99SilverSS 02-12-2009, 12:17 AM So will this be enough for Nardelli to come under perjury charges from the hearings back when the bailout money was requested and the Senators questioned if the money was only needed to buy Chrysler time to find a suitor. His response was negative.
Without taxpayer bailout loans this deal wouldn’t be even possible.

Neat looking,
I wouldn't call 135HP/151TQ wicked though. 0-62 in 7.9 seconds.
Probably fun to drive though!
