Chrisz24 02-10-2009, 08:47 AM My S/O and I saw this in a commercial and both had the same reaction- Where does this fit into the lineup?
Does this appeal to the buyer who doesnt want a:
Rav4,
Matrix
Highlander
4 Runner
Sequoia
Land Cruser?
Granted some of the later ones are trucks, but how many "SUV" ish soft roading vehicles does one company have to offer? Does this help their corporate average fuel economy needs? (Is it based on a camry?)
I just remember when just about every manufacturer offered 1 suv,:lol: and it was a real SUV!
soul strife 02-10-2009, 08:54 AM Looks like a Station Wagon to me. I guess it's a bigger Matrix. More car based then
Rav 4.
shock6906 02-10-2009, 09:05 AM It's ugly...so it should fit in with every other Toyota currently made. ;)
It makes no sense. Toyota is building SUVs like it is 1999.
Chrisz24, you also forgot the FJ Cruiser

The FJ Cruiser I was told is on the death bed:( I read that after this body's life is up it is dead. The FJ and 4 Runner are the only 2 vehicles I'd consider from Toyota.:yes: I bet even the 4 runner is on borrowed time, it seems they are committed to these girly cars and ugly fullsize trucks.
And the big 3 get accused of offering too many SUV's?:lol: Atleast theirs are distinctive differences! I couldnt imagine being a toyota sales person and trying to explain the suttle differences between these models to a ill informed customer:rolleyes: You almost need a personality test to determine what is best for you:rolleyes::lol:
97QuasarBlue3.8 02-10-2009, 10:42 AM GM offers quite a few SUV "things" as well. Just off the top of my head I can think of the Trailblazer, Equinox, Envoy, Tahoe, Suburban, HHR, Traverse, Vibe, Torrent, Vue, Yukon, Y Denali, Acadia, Enclave, Escalade, H2, H3, and SRX.
I really have no idea where the Venza fits in. It's just another blobular crossover.

But all those models fall over 7 brands. Lets classify that:
Chevrolet: Trailblazer, Equinox, Tahoe, Suburban, HHR, Traverse
Pontiac: Vibe, Torrent
Saturn: Vue, Outlook
GMC: Yukon, Denali, Envoy, Acadia
Buick: Enclave
Caddilac: Escalade, SRX
Hummer: H2, H3
So Chevy has 6 and Toyota has 7.
Toyota: Rav4, Matrix, Highlander, 4 Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser, Venza.

It will probably sell well too. I don't get people at all, the uglier the better. :shrug:

Correction, Chevy has 5*, Toyota has 7
Chevrolet: Tahoe, Suburban, Traverse, Equinox, HHR
Toyota: RAV4, FJ Cruiser , Highlander, Venza, 4 Runner, Sequoia, Land Cruiser
*HHR doesn't have AWD so I don't really consider that in the same class as an Escape or RAV4. Also the Vibe is a car so is the matrix, toyota counts the martix as a corrola wagon. Torrent, Trailblazer, and Envoy are no longer produced. Denali is just a trim level on the Yukon, not a different truck.
Silverado C-10 02-10-2009, 12:42 PM Toyota doesn't know how to classify it either :lol:
They sold 1,400 of them last month. Not bad for a new model in a crappy market.
Looks like a station wagon to me.
jg95z28 02-10-2009, 01:37 PM Crossovers are station wagons with a taller ride height and today's mini-van. Every manufacturer is (and should be) jumping into them as a replacement for the gas-guzzling full-size SUV.

:p I think if you were to overall compare "box things" GM might have more across its brands than Toyota has across its brands. Not that it's a bad thing...
guionM 02-10-2009, 02:20 PM The Venza is Toyota's version of Ford's edge.
Best way to describe it is it's today's station wagon, though no manufacturer wants to call these things that.
Chrysler's entry into this market is the Dodge Journey.
It's not an SUV, it's not quite a crossover (though that label is so broad, even a Grand Cherokee with it's unibody construction could fall into that catagory today).
They're pretty neat thingys, but they're not for me.
Eric77TA 02-10-2009, 02:36 PM :p I think if you were to overall compare "box things" GM might have more across its brands than Toyota has across its brands. Not that it's a bad thing...
If you take out the models that are recently discontinued or are being discontinued in the near future, it's pretty close, but GM still pulls ahead.
GX470, LX570, RX350, 4Runner, Highlander, Land Cruiser, Rav4, Sequoia, Venza, Matrix, XB - 11 Box Things
Enclave, Escalade, SRX, Acadia, Yukon, Terrain, H3, Vibe, HHR, Tahoe, Suburban, Traverse, Outlook, Vue - 14 Box Things
The Venza is Toyota's version of Ford's edge.
So then this would be Toyota's Chevy Equinox fighter too. I guess as long as Toyota keeps the 4Runner they have a vehicle that fits the needs of those that want a real tough truck SUV and a real wimpy soft looking car SUV, and something in between (Highlander).
4Runner = 189.2"
Venza = 189.0"
Highlander = 188.4"
Equinox = 188.8"
Ford Edge = 185.7"
cjmatt 02-10-2009, 02:52 PM theyve got the retarded looking dash like the tundra...i swear...toyota must make so much money because they dont put it into the design

I think you mean Ford Freestyle / Taurus X (R.I.P).
formula79 02-10-2009, 05:46 PM I figured it fits where the Highlander used to since the new Highlander is the size of a 4Runner.
I figured it fits where the Highlander used to since the new Highlander is the size of a 4Runner.
All 3 are the same size.
Chrisz24 02-10-2009, 06:35 PM I figured it fits where the Highlander used to since the new Highlander is the size of a 4Runner.
Why does Toyota (like many) feel the need that every re-do and update needs to be bumped up to the next price bracket? The vehicles are passing the buyers rate of pay increase.
Where I'm going with this is, if you bought a Rav 4 in 2002 and you trade it in today, chances are, you cant afford a new Rav 4 and need to look at something else (Venza?). Same goes for the Highlander which blossomed into a large vehicle from a smaller/ compact suv, the price also increased substantially also, I bet many who bought the origional Highlander cant afford the updated model.
I think GM has it under control, I remember when it was simply Suburban, K5 Blazer (2 door tahoe) and 2 door S10 Blazer. I remember both the addition of a 4 door blazer in 90ish and the 4 door tahoe in 95 were very welcome vehicles.
Chevy has the Equinox which once re-done, will be a very nice vehicle, the Tahoe and suburban are their own, I have doubts about the Traverse replacing the Trailblazer- I still think they could have re-done that vehicle better and that GM could have made a better minivan.
Indelibility 02-10-2009, 06:45 PM It's a taller, longer Camry.
It's a station wagon, but don't tell that to the general public :death:

1994greenz28 02-10-2009, 08:52 PM It looks like they forgot to add a shifter until they went to test drive it. Oh well, just throw it in where ever, people will still buy it because it is a Toyota.
30thZ286speed 02-11-2009, 02:41 PM The Venza is based off of the Camry platform and is built in the Georgetown, KY plant along side the Camry. I've seen several on the roads around here for a while now..... At least its not as ugly as the Camry.
shock6906 02-11-2009, 03:23 PM At least its not as ugly as the Camry.
You sure?

I mean, neither one of them are good looking cars, but the Venza wins the ugly contest for sure.
99SilverSS 02-12-2009, 03:59 AM IMO It's a Camry wagon and that's probably how it will be marketed at the dealer level.
The only real think I can't stand is the console looking shifter mounted on the dash.
Other than that it fits the Toy family look.

Its actually not to bad looking in person......for a Toyota. It looks a lot better than the Camry and Highlander, which is another Toyota that got beat with a ugly stick.
