4SFEDZ 02-06-2009, 01:46 PM ok i dont care how it drives, this is for a track car only on race gas! the setup is a lt1 385 (may go bigger later) and its a t76 (for now) heads are stock but have had lots of porting, its has a th400 with brake. i want something that if i go bigger cubes or turbo i will be fine. what do yall suggest? solid roller?
Well for starters what cam do you currently run? Basically an idea of where you are and just how big to go. I can't speak for solid roller cams, I have only known one guy personally run one and it was a gutted track car.
Very nice car!
You are located in Austin? I can't wait to finish my project 383/t76 :(
If i see you in town ill try to goad you into playing with my DD.

didnt you by the volcanos from me? ever get those put on!
oh yeah, hahah
Yeah I had them mounted and balanced the next day. And yes they are pure sex. However, I was confused because that was Waco, your location now says austin.
I really think you should give me a ride in the turbo Z to entice me into finishing mine. Its in shambles right now, front end off completely torn down for the 383 and a mountain of parts sitting in storage. ;)

engineermike 02-08-2009, 09:53 AM The T76 isn't going to let the 385 rev much over 6000 rpm. So, don't get wild on the duration and solid lifters aren't required.
My combo is similar and my 224/236 cam seems to work quite well. A while back, I switched to a 226/226 and lost power, so I put the "blower cam" back in. I'd say my current cam is all the T76 can use due to rpm limitations. Right now, I'm making enough power to go low 9's at 17 psi boost if I had it set up to launch hard. If you want to go quicker than that, then I suggest you look into either weight reductions or a turbo and cam larger than mine.

to be honest if i could squeeze out some mid to low 9's with the 76 i will stay with that! what stall are you runnin? right now im actually running a 3500 nitrous stall, you think that will hurt me much? and my cam, (dont really think its much of a FI cam) is 570 610 236/244 on a 112, whats your hot side look like?

I started with a 9.5" Vigilante 0 pump. It would flash to around 5200 rpm, so I sent it in to be tightened up. After that didn't work, they sent me a 10.5" converter that works great. It flashes to aorund 4500 at full boost.
My hot side is a log setup using a 3" log. The downpipe is 3" too.

so you have the pass side running thru the log on the drivers side?

Yep. The crossover is 2.5" and the passenger's side header is an SLP 1 3/4" with no modifications.

wow thats what im runnin right now, and you went low 9's with that? but am bout to stand the radiator up and use the twin logs and build a merge. i think it would be a little better without the pass side goin thru the drivers, what you think?

No, I went 146 mph, which is enough power to go low 9's if it's set up to launch. I went 9.9 on a 1.7x 60' time leaving at 0 boost with no trans brake and stock suspension. 146 is good for 9.3 or so.
Since my driver's side log is 3", it doesn't hurt to have both sides flowing through it. Keep in mind that the exhaust gas before the turbine is 3x more dense than normal, so you can fit 3x as much through any given pipe size.
Tricked-Out-Toy 02-09-2009, 01:29 PM You can go bigger, Ive got a custom speced cam at 236/236 .624/.624 on a 114 +2 woth XFI lobes and was told that it would be perfect for boost on my little 355 :) I would think on a 385 you would see much better manners and really push that 76.

im just surprised you arent having back pressure problems?
slomarao 02-09-2009, 10:19 PM Well i think the question really is how fast do you want to go?
Or how big is your budget?:)
Also how much weight reduction do you plan on?
engineermike 02-09-2009, 11:02 PM im just surprised you arent having back pressure problems?
At 17 psi boost, my backpressure is around 35 psi. This only after making sure my exhaust, intercooler, throttle body, and cold-side piping kinks were worked out. I was as high as 50 psi backpressure at one time. Backpressure has as much to do with cold-side piping as hot-side and the turbo size.

get that thing running .... and bring it out for some fun
Trust me, I am dying to get this car under way. i only started this project in november and i finally have most of my parts. sadly the machine work on the 383 will not be done for quite some time.
But when it is running there i want to make the cabelas meet and scope out some of the cars i see locally on streetfire. :)
My biggest issue with the build is that the car sat for over a year and i am uncertain of any gremlins i might face, i had some rubber hoses that attach to the intake go bad on me. I also want to do the brakes before unleashing this much hp pn them.

I understand... better to be safe then sorry , i cant wait to see it out and about on the streets
....some of the local cars that are on streetfire run pretty damn well ;),im sure the LS1 fox and 300zx 2jz will be down to play
I really want a slice of that 300zx. I love that car, in fact i almost bought one back in the day.

that 300zx is a big slice .... he has been beating up on all kinds of cars and I have yet to see him set it on KILL
03 Cobra Hellion 76mm Vs 300

I figure its going to take close to a 950 rwhp fbody that can put the power down to pull him
You think that much? he gets pulled by the supra in a couple vids, although i think they were a little old. He might have more power than the last time i looked.
reamo04 02-11-2009, 05:09 PM Wtf is done to that 300?
on a second thought, id like to see him run it from a dig
2jz think a 76mm turbo, although i forget exactly. it has been a while since i looked at it. and i am not bothering to view that video from my phone :)
from a dig would be fun to see though.

he had a auto in the car at time, I think he was also runnning on e85 when he went to SA to run that Supra...i will ask him tho
he had just swapped to the 5spd box when the ran that hellion cobra.. the cobra makes something like 660rwhp on pump fuel and 13psi....and over 700rwhp on 18psi .... the 300z keeps turning down the boost everytime they run... till its just on the wastegate spring on the last run
i would like to see what his car will do maxing out that 67mm on some Q16 ...
wow, he is definently faster than the last time i saw. And he was far from slow then, doubt i will be making that kind of power to run him down on kill mode. i was looking more the 800rwhp max area with a new set of heads.
reamo04 02-11-2009, 05:46 PM Ford, if i can get one of you guys to spot me a couch or something for a weekend i'll come down and take a shot at that 300 here once my new build is done, well...if he'll run from a dig anyways. Ive watched LT1s SLAUGHTER high hp supras and **** from a dig.

I got a nice comfy $3k couch :) But I get to video!

I can't weld. I just buy things. :p I assume I could teach myself to weld, however I do not want to learn on my hotside parts. :p
Luckily, I mostly have fueling issues and shortblock to worry about. Not sure if my stage 3 spec clutch will hold or how my T56 will enjoy this amount of power, but I guess those are things I will find out in the coming months.
