well guys as i had found out before my t3/t4 turbo is way to small to run on my car and instead of paying another 300+ to get a second turbo and more piping and deal with the tt mess i have been looking at some bigger turbos.
The turbo(s) will be going on a 383 with forged rods/pitsons, and LE 1 Heads and a custom cam,3200 stall, and probably 42 lb injectors(not set in stone so i can go bigger if i need to, this build was in the direction of n/a til the other night) heres two i found tonight, one is local and one is on another forum. Please give me any info you have on the turbos/manufacturers/etc. Heres al lthe info i have on the two.

HOLSET HT3B TURBO
Heard these were basically for big trucks, but just wondering how well it would work on my car.
Supposed to be equal to a 76mm
No idea on A/R's still researching that.

XSPower Turbo
Supposedly made for V6/V8 cars. Saw this one in person, never been installed. Hot Side 1.15 A/R, Cold Side .60 A/R. Split Flange for the Hot side Inlet. Only thing iffy bout this is i heard XSpower doesnt make good quality turbos... : /

Both would be the same price for me so please let me hear what you have to say.

the HT3B is a BIG turbo, it flows 1100CFM, and good to about 770HP

what are your goals for the car? That'll help us out a lot

goals. well motor im looking at like 400hp then with my turbo, intercooler, water meth hopefully somewhere near 600 on low low boost.

and you say the ht3b is a big turbo and good to that number but will it spool and run well on a 383?

so basically i summed that long thread up about the xspower turbo. Its a chinese turbo made to be like a gt45. It spooled up around 3500 on a 302. so on my 383 i should be spooling id guess around like 2800-3000 which is a nice low end spool. quality wise theres not many people who say they are good qaulity but the people who used them avent had problems after numerous passes, al lthey had to do was open up the turbo housing to get the metal debri out before using to keep it from blowing up. S

So all in all im definitely liking the idea of this xspower turbo i can be getting, and in the mean time i can get rid of my t3/t4 and only pay 200 for the turbo. keep the comments coming so i can get some more opinions. thanks

personally, for 600 you can buy a borg warner s475. Definately good for the power goals you are looking for. Otherwise for the same price, you can get a master power t70 turbo.

Those HT3B's are just monsterous, and would probably be hard to fit in your engine bay.

crap, i forgot you were a 383, the T70 will be too small for one. Look at the master power t76 as it'd be a little more at home. The s475 with a 1.32 A/R is where its at IMO, best bang for the buck. Capable of 750+ RWHP for $600.....oh yeah :death:

im having trouble finding the s475. any links to one or a site that carries them?

nevermind just found em, around 600 not 600 but what would be wrong with this xspower one, as it does have a 1.15 a/r and it does equal out to a 76mm. mind you the one im looking at, is not the same as the one in that bulletin you posted before. its actually bigger than that one(the one in the thread that is, not the s475.)

IIRC, it was the XSPower turbos that about two years ago had the compressor housings GLUED together instead of being cast in one piece. under boost, they would come apart, and bye-bye motor. Now, not entirely sure if it was XSpower, or another company, but im pretty sure it was them. Just trust me, turbos are not something you want to cheap out on. Those little t3/t4 hybrids with the built in wastegate however do work pretty good.

yea a buddy of mine said it was ssautochrome or somethin like that. basically the same company but the cspower ones might be different. imma get it, cuz either way they wont tear apart if im running low boost off of them which i will be according to him. so imma go with it, offer the guy 200 cash and just open it up to check things out inside.

I've been running ah HT3B on my stock LT1 (maybe 300 miles so far) and am pretty impressed with it. It was a freebie from a friend and I figured what the heck. With 60lb injectors, two fuel pumps and running E-85 it will hit 9lbs of boost at around 3500rpm. The tires wont hold in 3rd gear and the clutch doesnt hold in 4th so I have not been to the track with it yet and I have not turned the boost up anymore (looking for at least 12 lbs later). The funny thing is that this is on a REAR mount setup, I sealed off the trunk and mounted it right behind the gas tank. I also closed off 1 side of the scroll (it has a devided 36cm exhaust housing) and opened up the one side to match the size of my 3" exhaust and with a 60mm wastegate it seems to be easy to control. I even ran it on 93 octane for a couple of weeks when they changed to E-70 for the fall and turned the boost down to 5 lbs and it still spools at around 3700 rpm...and my clutch will now hold in 4th gear. I still need to check backpressure but so far it seems to be a pretty good turbo for FREE. I hope to get it to the track this spring after I get a real clutch in it and see what she will do.

more than likely you are going to have to stand the radiator vertical to get it to fit.
