I am looking into getting a box and sub very soon. For the box I was going to get subthumps drivers side box or sshevey's box from ls1.com when he starts making them b/c I will be getting his tweeter pods too. Which box do you think is better? I was thinking of getting a 10 alpine type-r. Is this a nice sub? All that I am looking for is some nice bass that I can feel, nothing crazy or competition. Also what would be a nice amp for this sub or any sub/amp combo that might be good. Thanks

FWIW, I'm using a 10" Type-S (http://images.cardomain.com/installs/133000-133999/133032_97_full.jpg). I like it much better than the JL 10W3 it replaced.

What is the difference between the type-r and type-s?

The only differences I'm aware of is that the Type-R handles a little more power, has a larger surround (which means the Type-S has more actual cone area) and costs more than the Type-S.

I have been using WinISD Pro (http://www.linearteam.dk/statistics.asp?prog=winisdpro) to help me with my decision on what sub to run in my 12" Stealthbox. Keep in mind though that the sub will react differently installed in the vehicle because of cabin gain, but this will give you a good idea of it's response in any enclosure....

BTW, I will have a JL Vantage box loaded with a Alpine Type R for sale pretty quick. I used it for about a month and then I decided to try a 12" custom Stealth loaded with probably a Audiomobile 12" MASS sub..as that's the one that seems to play the lowest according to WinISD Pro in my enclosure.

PM me if you want, I can model a few different subs for you in a JL Vantage/Stealthbox and send you the results.
