One of those subjective exhaust questions ;)

Hey guys.. I thought Id post my question and see if any one has some insight or good suggestions.

On my 98 Formula LS1/M6 I have pacesetter long tubes, Texas ORY no cats, and the new SLP powerflo exhaust (has the I-pipe bullet muffler and two resonators)
At idle it is smooth and quiet, under acceleration is has a great deep sound that is not obnoxious BUT..... at highway cruising speed (anything from 60-80) it has Terrible deep bass DRONE. Enought to give you a headache after about 35 miles. (I drive 35 miles each way to work everyday). Makes it hard to have a conversation or hear the radio. Totally sucks because other than that it sounds awesome.

So, I want to replace that I-pipe bullet muffler with something quieter that will have no drone. (Ill keep the two resonators on there too.)
I was thinking a chambered muffler like the Edelbrock SDT or Hooker aerochamber. Does anyone think these would cut down the drone over the SLP bullet??
Otherwise I might have to put a dynomax superturbo on it or something like that.

go to summit and look up their bullet muffler...they have one that's 24" long....will really help with the drone.

The Hooker Aerochamber is a great muffler. You should also consider Magnaflow IMO. :)

Ill check that one out. Ive been wanting to try the aerochamber because I tend to like the chambered sound. Some say it is hardly no louder than stock, which would be great. The sound clips make it sound louder than that though (I realize most clips dont do the tru sound any justice..).

A low-drone bullet would be kewl to.. and easier to incorporate.
Decisions decisions ;)

Ill try to get a mic for my computer and take a sound clip of the vehicle. I couldn't hardly find any for my powerflo.

You know the padding/insulation crap the bassheads put in their cars for subwoofers?

Why not try that, sense it seems like it would be similar decibel levels?

Keep the sound you love for your car while keeping the interior more quiet.

Well, I thought Id update this one and ask another question...

I tried to get away cheap by having a 12" long glasspack style muffler welded in front of the I-pipe muffler (I have the slp powerflo system). It took a little bit of the drone down, but after taking a 2 hour road trip it is still way too loud at cruising speed. (its that low frequency hum to get from it.. cant put in enough sound deadner to slow that low freq down)

So, I am going to have to go with a whole new exhaust system. Personally I really like the chambered sound.. and I really like the sound of the hooker aerochamber cat back. I dont mind if its loud when accelerating, I just want it QUIET when at cruise.
With headers and offroad Y do you think I should do the hooker catback AND a magna flow style round muffler inthe I-pipe?
OR should I just go with a Dynomax Superturbo catback?

Just looking for opinions as to the loudness at cruising speed. Thanks!
