Front Brake Rotor Q?Q?Q?'s

My fiance just purchased a 2002 Camaro that has 10K miles on it. She loves the car but the front rotors are warped bad. Is there a recall on the rotors or is she stuck having to get the rotors turned after 10K miles? What I am looking for is some sort of documentation referencing the problem. I know of the issues with the rotors on the 98-02 F-bodies, just want her to have something documented to take in with her to the dealer since I will not be in town. Thanks in advance.

The rotors should be under warranty especially with only 10K on them. All you whould have to do is bring it to a Chevy dealer and they should replace the rotors with new ones.

Its a pretty common issue. The dealer will cover it, they'll resurface them until they need to be replaced. I'd reccommend just replacing them.

I have powerslot rotors, they look great and work very well.

Under the 2000 F Bulletins, you will find one on Brake Rotor Warranty Service :

The general rule of thumb seems to be that under 12 mos/12K you are O.K. - after that, G.M. feels that the rotors , like pads, are "wear" items & thus not covered by the bumper to bumper warranty.

However , most service managers will work w/ you if the mileage is not excessive (20K or less) as a customer satisfaction issue. This will be a case of rotor turning - I'd be pretty darn impressed if you could get the rotors replaced !

Won't matter one way or the other, though - our rotors are crap, and at some point you will go w/ aftermarkets such as PowerSlots.

Good Luck !!

NewbieTA, Thanks for the link. That will give her something in writing to take with her to the dealer.

I'm pretty sure that the dealer won't be replacing them any time soon. Good luck trying it, though. I'm sure they will turn them for you, but that's about it.

You know, if the conditions are right, you can warp rotors with just few miles on them and it is not an issue with the material or workmanship, it is an issue of physics.

Good luck!
