JasonD 01-05-2009, 09:40 PM Just in case anyone missed this from the 2010 forums...
Good Evening Camaro comrades, Firebird Friends, and Corvette Cousins!
BUY CAMARO #1 AT BARRETT-JACKSON - JANUARY 17, 2009
You Don't Need to Be Present to Bid
One very passionate Camaro enthusiast at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction will come away with the keys to the first regular retail production-built unit of Chevy's all-new, 21st Century Sports Car. This first Camaro built for regular retail production will have a VIN ending with 100001*.
Chevrolet ceased production of the fourth-generation of their vaunted sportscar in 2002. Four years later, Camaro appeared as a surprise concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. The new production Camaro remains steadfastly true to that concept, with an eye-catching design reminiscent of the storied 1969 Camaro, but equipped with modern technology and a GM-estimated 27 MPG** highway when equipped with the available V6 engine.
Importantly, the winning bidder will have the ability to spec and order their Camaro to their liking, choosing from several colors, V6 or V8 engines, a manual or automatic transmission, and various trim packages and free-flow options. The vehicle will be built on the first day of retail production -- scheduled for early 2009.***
All net proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Heart Association, a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke." The association's impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010.
Please join GM, Chevrolet, Barrett-Jackson and the American Heart Association in pursuit of this very worthwhile effort, and be the first to own Chevy's 21st Century Sports Car, the 2010 Chevy Camaro.
REGISTER NOW AT WWW.BARRETT-JACKSON.COM TO BE ABLE TO BID ON AUCTION DAY.
*Prior to retail production, GM will produce its fleet of engineering and test Camaros.
** Based on GM testing. Official EPA estimates not yet available.
***Vehicle will be delivered through an authorized Chevrolet dealer.
Winning bidder responsible for taxes, title, license and registration fees.
Camaro Casey 01-06-2009, 09:42 AM Damn, I wish I could bid from where I'm at. I'd be all over that.
blackoutj 01-07-2009, 02:29 AM How angry would you be if you bought the VIN # 3 on ebay...
JasonD 01-07-2009, 08:12 AM How angry would you be if you bought the VIN # 3 on ebay...
I thought about that. #3 went for 75k if I remember correctly. I will expect #1 to go for at least twice that.
WS Sick 01-07-2009, 09:27 AM Thats neat and all , but when its all said and done 20 years from now you still just have an early production 2010 Camaro.
I've seen too many cars lauded to one day be collectors that people pay 10 times its value for be worth only slightly more than a standard production of the same car.
I'll buy mine off the lot. (or order it)
detroitboy 01-07-2009, 09:30 AM As I recall the 1st GT500 to be built sold at BJ for over a million, as did the first ZR-1. The Camaro will be sold under the same circumstances with important people autographing the sun visor at the auction etc.
I'd love to see the Camaro go that high too. But will it in this economy? Its going to be interesting.
I'm going to be glued to the TV watching speedvision for 4 days starting the 17th. In fact, I turned down a chance to go to the auction this year because you can actually see more of the cars sell on TV. When you're outside looking at all the beautiful cars you end up missing the action on the auction block. But its a fun place to go to at least once in your life. I recommend it to anyone who has never been there before.

When you have the manhood to pay that kind of money, it doesn't matter at that point. :)

The timing is definitely working against it. :(
johnny6 01-07-2009, 08:18 PM Are they going to show the auction on the SPEED channel? I'm interested to see how it does, hopefully it sells for a high price considering it's all for a very good cause.
dyerarch 01-14-2009, 05:11 PM Just got the word that production is on hold...no commitment date for resumption. Bummer

Not true. Production has only been delayed 30 days. This was covered in the 5th Gen section last week and in our weekly Podcast.

you just registered and this is your first post. do you honestly think people are going to believe you?

First production cars do have an extra value to them. They just auctioned off the first ever Thunderbird to roll off the assembly line a couple of nights ago. I didn't see how much it went for, but I'm sure it went for a higher price than any other 55 T-bird ever has.

Easy bigfella....I'm just reporting what I heard from a reliable service manager. You wanna start taking shots at me...you better be prepaired for bear.

Thank you for the courteous reply, as I said I was only reporting what I heard from a reliable service manager. I will check with those who I know in sales management...apologies if I led anyone astray...but #2 needs to check his attitude...he seems a little angry and perhaps short on testosterone...

No one is taking shots at you. It's all very simple, you either have proof or you don't. CZ28 has unbelievable resources when it comes to anything GM, especially the 5th gen. Take a look in the in the 5th gen section, every "rumor" or "speculation" is backed up by an actual resource. Don't take it the wrong way, we just don't like the "my friends uncle's boss knows someone at GM and said production came to a halt" type of speculations. Catch my drift? Welcome to CZ28, it's an amazing site with a whole lot of information :thumb:
I'll also be tuning in tomorrow to see how the auction goes :) Hopefully it does very well.
Chevycobb 01-17-2009, 10:53 PM sold for $350,000
johnny6 01-17-2009, 11:02 PM Greatly exceeded my expectations

nitrojunky 01-18-2009, 12:52 AM damn, that's a lot of $$ for a camaro.

but #2 needs to check his attitude...he seems a little angry and perhaps short on testosterone...
well, you got the 'bigfella' part correct. not so sure about the rest.
MN80228 01-18-2009, 09:58 AM Obviously purchased as an investment.
Not sure if I remember correctly, but I think the same guy bought the 1955 Thunderbird production #0001, and the 1957 Chevy production # 0002.
I am sure they will wind up in a collection or museum somewhere.
Still seems like a good investment if you don't want to actually drive it.
tfperf 01-18-2009, 04:54 PM The 001 T-Bird sold for $600,000 in case anyone is interested.
IROCtheZ28 01-20-2009, 11:33 AM $350,000 wow  !
Wonder what will the 5th Gen Trans Am will fetch if #1 rolled off the assembly line?
2010SSVERT 01-21-2009, 12:31 PM I don't think it was an investment, more like a donation as the $$$ went to charity. Rick Hendrick(the purchaser) also sold one of Jeff Gordan's race car from the previous season, for his charity(Leukemia). He may well auction it off later with some sort of added value(autographs etc).
If you didn't see the race car get auctioned it went for $500,000.00, and he threw in 2 "tickets" to any race on the nascar circuit, meet any one of his drivers, and sit on Jeff Gordan's box for the race.
