What: 5th Annual Michigan FBody Spring Meet & Greet 2009
Price: Show is FREE!!
Date: May 30th, 2009
Time: 7am to 4pm
Location: Bakers of Milford, Milford, MI
Address: 2025 S. Milford Rd, Milford, MI 48380-4410

Introduction:
That's right guys and girls, it's already time to start planning for 2009's show season! With the beginning of 2009 already here, we're posting the information early to give you plenty of time to mark your calendars! The staff of MiFbody.com have decided to make the first Saturday after Memorial Day our yearly event date. This will make it easier for people to plan for the event for years to come as well as make it easier for us, the staff, to organize it! Last year, even with an overwhelming prediction of showers and the subsequent downpour at the show, we still were grateful for the large turnout we encountered! Over 150 vehicles showed up - still growing larger every year! This year, we're pushing for 175 Fbodies. Last year's outcome was purely the result of rain predictions - hopefully this year we can stay dry this year like we have in years past! Can we make it to our goal of 175 FBodies? Only with your help! So mark your calendars and register for the Meet & Greet today!

Food and Beverages:
There will be a luncheon grill and will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m...it's the standard grill menu that Baker's uses at the Sunday cruise-in. If we need, they are willing to open the grill early for us but 11am at the latest. Here is their menu:

Burger & chips - $5
Chicken sandwich & chips - $5
Hot dog & chips - $3
Bratwurst & chips - $3 (add $1 for sauerkraut)
Italian sausage - $3 (add $1 for peppers and onions)
Pop/water - $1
Bag of chips - $1

Second will be Baker's themselves...they have a full lunch and dinner menu, and have a patio that will be overlooking the cars. Menus can found here:

http://www.bakersofmilford.com/restaurant.php

Third is an adjacent on-site deli/party store that has sandwiches, pizza, hot wings, ice cream, and the like.

Fourth can't be forgetten: Dairy Queen is directly across the street from Bakers!

Registration:
As most of you might remember from previous years, filling out the registration forms the day of the event can be overwhelming! To register for the event - you have your choice of two forms! We have partnered with Motortopia to help advertise our event and they offer an online registration form! We have also created a version of their registration form on our website as well! You can register at either one of the two links below, but please make sure you register at one of them!

http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/newthread.php?do=meetgreet
http://www.motortopia.com/events/view/e/2580/i/5th_annual_michigan_fbody_meet_greet

General Plans for the Meet & Greet:
The Meet & Greet, as a tradition, is a casual meet up to hang out and have fun! The event's host website (MiFbody.com) is still growing at an exponential rate, and there's still a lot of names that we know from the community but we don't have a face to place with the name. The Meet & Greet was created in 2005 to put faces to the user names on the site. The whole point is to meet new people, hang out, show off our own cars and check out each other's cars! Over the years, we've grown to include the entire FBody community not only in Michigan but in neighboring states and Canada! Our goal is not directly meant to promote our website - but more to promote the FBody community as a whole and encourage the community to establish friendships with people in the area with the same passion for the cars we own! The Meet & Greet is MiFbody.com's way to try and give back to the community by having a yearly show to look forward to.

50/50 Raffle:
Last year we had a 50/50 raffle with great results! This year, again, we will be having a 50/50 raffle! So bring your money and make some cash to pay off the gas you used to get to the event! :D

Please note that the cruise to Woodward is completely independent of the Meet & Greet - although a tradition for some. The meet will be considered finished directly after the short Awards ceremony. Please make arrangements on your own if you plan to cruise to Woodward after the Meet & Greet

Just an update on registrations so far - keep them coming if you are interested in coming! Even if you don't show up, I'd rather someone pre-register and not show up than have to fill the form out at the event! :)

How far away is the show from the border?

I was thinking about going last year but of course my car was still in pieces and never got to making it out. I google mapped it out and says 5 hrs each way which im sure is more like 4  Doesnt look to far away from the border was just wondering exactly long a drive it is from the border to the show.

Thanks,
Matt

In all honesty, I haven't been at the border all too often so I'm not too sure how different it is compared to Google Maps. I generally notice that Google Maps is an overestimation. Went on a road trip last night that Google Maps said would take 48 minutes and while maintaining no greater than 5 over the speed limit on the roads and highways I still got there in about 30 minutes. We have had people come across from Canada before, though.

Can I come in a C5 if I don't have a Camaro anymore?

meissenation
01-25-2009, 09:55 PM
Certainly, Mike. While it's an FBody centric show, we're not going to say people can't come just because they don't have one. :) There's actually one member from the site who sold his Trans Am for a C5 and that's what he'll be riding in with.

Looks like the C5's will have a little competition. I had another member from MiFbody.com register with their C5. ;)

That would be great! We're absolutely humbled at the great reception that we're getting from people outside of Michigan. This started out as just a little group meet up for the site (25 people the first year) but has grown rather quickly.

We'd be glad to have ya in your Skyline! :D Kensington is absolutely a beautiful park. Our only negative aspect thus far with Kensington has been that we are not allowed to "control" our area of the parking lot (block off spaces) - but since it's a public park, that's understandable. I like your DD too -- I just bought a 2008 Trailblazer LS in January... great vehicle. :)

Our preregistrations have been tallied and updated!

We now have the following numbers by state:
Illinois: 5
Ohio: 2
Pennsylvania: 2
Indiana: 1
Michigan: 123

AB-SOL-LUTELY humbled by the showing of support from the surrounding states. I had never dreamed that our show would extend attendance outside of Michigan and am absolutely excited to make this year our best year yet! :D

Hello,

With only 45 days, 14 hours, and 45 minutes before the big event, we have made a huge change to the 2009 Meet & Greet venue.

Instead of holding our event at Kensington Metro Park, we will be holding the event at Bakers of Milford in Milford, Michigan.

This event is essentially *next door* to Kensington park, so the location change should be a very minimal inconvenience.

The new address for this year's Meet & Greet is 2025 S. Milford Rd, Milford, Michigan. Please mapquest accordingly.

For those that planned to take I-96 to Kensington, you will be able to take your route as planned but exit the freeway at exit 155 - Milford Rd - north. Once you exit the freeway and head north on Milford Rd, you will go 2.5 miles and Bakers of Milford will be on your right. I will do my best to deploy signs where possible.

Our official flier has been updated accordingly and can be viewed here: http://www.mifbody.com/MeetGreet2009.png

The official Information thread has been updated accordingly:
http://www.mifbody.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=22105

Should you have any questions or concerns at all, please feel free to contact me at meissen@mifbody.com or via telephone at 586-839-9565.

Thanks,
Brian Meissen

Hey guys,

A bit of an update here - we have met with Bakers and have a lot of plans worked out that I wanted to share. I'm also very excited to mention that Scott Settlemire, Al Oppenheiser, John Fitzpatrick, and Cheryl Pilcher all have the Meet & Greet marked down in their calendars and look forward to attending again this year.

If anyone has not heard of Bakers of Milford (especially those from out of state) - Bakers of Milford is a Metro Detroit icon for cruise-ins. Not only is their restaurant one of the best arround but every Sunday during the cruising season they host a *FREE* cruise-in with door prizes, giveaways, raffles, and it's not uncommon for them to have upwards of a thousand cars at the show. :)

First off, here is our parking arrangements for the day of the Meet & Greet. Please make sure that we all try to respect Baker's parking lot and surrounding area as much as possible.
http://www.mifbody.com/bakers.jpg

Secondly, here is a list of all the options for food the day of the Meet & Greet:

There will be a luncheon grill...this is a "for sure" thing, and will run from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m...it's the standard grill menu that Baker's uses at the Sunday cruise-in.

Last but certainly not least - with exactly one month to go we have hit the 200 registrations mark!

Awesome! If you don't mind, please register for the show and have your friends register too. I'll be printing out windshield slips and have everything ready for those who register ahead of time. Makes it a lot easier than having you fill out the registration form in the parking lot when you get there the day of the show. :) If you can have your friends fill it out or register them too, that'd be awesome! :D http://www.mifbody.com/meetgreet/registration

Same here. My kids are registered for a 1-mile run in downtown Lansing so I cannot attend. I've been bummed enough about it that I haven't even gotten the car out yet this year.

1 mile will not take all day.

Wow - it's overwhelming the number of registrations we received this year! Happy to report that based off of everyone's reactions to Bakers (as if I doubt anyone ISN'T going to like the new location) we might see about doing a multi-day or a true all-day event... something to make it even more enticing for people to drive across the state or from other states to our humble little show. :)

I registered my Vette and my old lady's T/A, but if the weather is crappy I might come out in the Jeep.

Thanks Mike, saw your registration. Weather should be excellent! Only rain they're talking about is late evening and that's only a 30% chance - that's a 70% chance of a dry evening. No reason to be worried about the weather during the show. :D :D :D

That's right folks - the day before the Meet & Greet and we have 308 registrations!!!! WOW! Big thank you to everyone who registered. It will make life much easier when you get there at the show rather than having to fill the form out when you get there.

See you all on Saturday!!!!

Thank you to everyone who came out to the show on Saturday - even in the short rain we had in the late morning. It almost seems to be a tradition that we get ~20 minutes of rain and then it gets nice out the rest of the day.

Our official count is 232 cars that checked in or registered at the event but we've heard of quite a few who never checked in or never registered (it's a free show, so no big deal) so we're estimating about 250 cars were there.

HUGE, HUGE thank you to Jason and Chris for not only coming out to the show but for also bringing along some CZ28 diecasts to raffle off. It was much appreciated and I think quite a few of the raffle winners enjoyed their diecasts! :)

And as always, forever indebted to Scott, Cheryl, John, and Al for coming out to our show. I heard a LOT of great discussions about the 2010 Camaros and a lot of people appreciated the opportunity to sit in them and check the cars out.

Here's some cool pictures that I thought I'd share:
