how much to repaint car?

for a general estimate, anyone know how much it costs to get a decent paintjob around here? any local guys that do it good for cheap?

basically it looks like i drove behind someone dropping rocks out of their truck and now there are like 10 large chips in the paint on the hood, along with hail marks on the paint (no metal damage) and the front clip is a mess. the passenger door also needs to be repaired from what looks like a crappy previous repair job from some sort of hole in the fiberglass. the hole hasn't re-opened but it looks like ass.

so basically i think it needs a basic sanding and re-paint. i'd prolly stay with black cause thats what it is now. anyone have an idea of how much that'd cost? not looking for show quality...

and will our hoods rust? should i quickly throw some touch up paint on the chips to prevent rust?

We just happened to be checking into this recently with my buddy's car being wrecked and all. You are probably looking at a minimum of $1500 for a decent job. Even MAACO will be in the $1200 to $1500 for a decent job. I would not go with their advertised special on a decent car.

If you find another option let us know because his car needs a total repaint now and it is also black.

Do a search for Whistler and drop him an e-mail. No one can touch his work or prices.

A paint job costs however much as you want to spend. You can spend $250 and get it sprayed or you could spend $8000. You most definately get what you pay for. Without seeing your car, I'd say anything less than $1500 for paint and body repairs would be a serious compromise.

Aaaah, there is the miracle worker himself. As soon as I am "allowed to" (;)!) I will post pics and explain to everyone just what a true miracle worker that man (Chris aka Whistler) is.

Whistler-

My rear bumper was hit and there's a paint flake the size of a quarter and spider cracks all around it. The cheapest price I was quoted to repaint the bumper was $268. Is there a way to get rid of the flakes and cracks without painting the bumper and do you think I can get it painted or fixed cheaper?

I need to paint my hood now that I got the cowl coming on. I think my uncle said anywhere from 150 to 250 for it.

Any guesses on the cost of a color change... nothing flashy, but lets say form Teal to silver... 93-97 f-body....

from my understanding, doesnt matter if you go from white to black, or pink to yellow, any good color change is atleast 3500. And you're not even getting a quality deal. And IMO you should change your car color, it decreases the value of your car because it now means that at 1 point your car was taken completely apart.

I got a retired painter guy quote me $800 for what it sounds like is a real professional paint job on my 3rd gen. I may do it later this month if anyone wants to know the outcome. I wouldn't mind getting a quote from this Whistler guy too! How do I get in touch with him.

would that be for the whole car?

my whole car could use a sanding / painting, but specifically the hood, front facia, and passenger door (currently red! hah!) need it the most. i'm not interested in a color change, just fixing what looks nasty.

yeah, the whole car. strip the old paint, fix most of the little dings, 2 coats of primer, seal, two coats of paint and a coat of clear. I would try to do it myself but I would need sprayer equipment and a place to work on it, probably spend a few hundred and chance it looks like crap :-)
