What is the thick, black, sticky snot like stuff used to hold weather strip in place. I dont think its the conventional RTV or stuff from a tube and was used to hold parts of the vert weather strip in place. I am trying the RTV but I am not convinced it will work. This stuff is very sticky and instantly holds the WS in place.

3M Super Weatherstrip adhesive? Comes in yellow and black and it's in a tube. Used to use it for gasket adhesive before the days of RTV.

Yea. What shoe said. A lot of people refer to it as elephant snot. The stuff I have used came in cans. Spread it on both parts, let it dry to tacky and assemble. It works good.

I used some of that on a speaker grill to stop vibrations. Works well.
