as alternator got worse... so did transmission
Hi guys..
I have a 94 3.4 auto completely stock (insert sarcastic jokes here.) haha
This morning driving to work i noticed for the last 10 minutes of the drive that my alt. gauge was in the red.
Parked it all day, started fine at 5:00, drove home (25kms).
As i neared my house, i started hearing whining from under the hood. as the whining got louder, my transmission started "slipping". When i drove up the driveway i had the engine revving up to 4K and the car was just crawling. (meanwhile the alt gauge needle was dipping further into the red.
I left it running in park and the whining was the alternator. easy fix. What gives with the transmission slip?
anyone else have this happen? is it cuz 4L60E is electronically controlled?

I figured I'd follow up on this so that when other people search they can see what the result was...
got the alternator tested and it was pooched. Put a new one in yesterday and it fired right up. took it around the block a few times and it's back to normal!
maybe it wasn't the transmision slipping, but that's the only way i could describe the issue... i had the motor screaming and the car would just crawl.
anyway, all is well for now!

You could have been bogging down the engine with the alt seizing up. That's all I can think of causing it to feel like that. My brother's alternator seized up on his 99 Z28 and it killed the engine. Couldn't be started again until he changed out the alt.
