cars runs better after resetting pcm and burnt smell?

I reset my pcm today because the car has been running weak lately and the last time I reset the pcm is ran much stronger. It ran much stronger after resetting it this time too. Also evertime I shut the car off there is a burnt smell. Sometimes I smell it when driving and this is with the light off so it's not the cigarette lighter bulb melting the ashtray. I clutch is the only thing I can think of that would smell but is doesn't seen to be slipping at all. The car only has just less than 2500 miles. Any idea's?

My immediate idea and explaination to the "runs better" would be the fact that it runs into open loop.

I did quite a few dyno runs testing stuff yesterday.. its in my review section.. On one run, when I installed the MTI lid, the sensors were disconnected(to get the parts off the car) then placed into the MTI lid and reconnected.. Not sure why this would happen like that but the fact remains.. For 1 run and 1 run only it went into what I can only explain as open loop. It was near perfect on the A/F ratio at about 13 and it made a max of 318.9/338.7. The following run put it back down to where it should of been.. 312.7/331.9.. In other words, it was not repeatable..

As for the burnt smell, did you make anything come loose? Maybe you should double check again, but for the future, I would not disconnect my PCM just to see if it feels faster. Do a real mod.. My findings are that the paper filter out does the K&N..

The only reason I reset the pcm yesterday was the car lately feels weak in second gear at any rpm. After resetting the pcm it pulled twice as hard. I posted this same topic and LS1.com and one guy said it runs better because it's running lean now but after 50-100 miles it will go back to normal.

The burnt smell started long before the I ever reset the pcm, so there not related. 3 times the smell was like rotten eggs. The smell is always there when I turn it off.

blacknight, I just reset my pcm for the first time for the hell of it and my car ran like crap. The idle was off, car didn't pull that good and I had a noticable burning smell coming from some where.
After diving for about 15 miles car rans a little better but the idle is still off... Just thought you like to know what my experience was like..

BTW, thanks for the dealer info...

I've had the 'rotten egg smell' also, but only on a few occasions. It usually dissipates quickly so I haven't worried about it. I originally thought about the clutch or tires but I like the 'cats' as the reason. Maybe they are still being broken in?
