My custom leather interior project is underway. So far I have removed everything inside the car and it is down to the bare metal. My question is should i spray some undercoating on the metal for added sound dampening or should I just leave it. I don't want to spend the money on dynomat or any of the knock-offs, this project is costing me enough! Do you think that the undercoating will help, I have a convertible so my cabin is already noisier. If I was ever going to do it, it would be now since everything is out, I don't plan on doing this again for awhile!!!

If anything I would just re-paint it with the same color exterior paint for rust protection in case your roof ends up leaking at some point in time but I dunno how much a difference the undercoating will make as far as sound dampening goes if you think its a good idea though go for it only way you find out if something works or not

Yeah i say go for it, undercoating works pretty well for sounddeadening. just depends on how much you put on. It wont hurt anything either.

If you are just looking for a sound barrier I wouldn't do it. With convertables the extra sound is coming thru the conv. top not the floor. The floor is going to have the same sound levels as a none convertable. If you are looking for protection from the weather an possible leakage into the car, then I would go for it.

I wouldn't reccomend it, that rubberized stuff smells like s**t, and has no catalyst if it comes from a can. So every time it gets hot out, the stuff could soften up and your interior smell like roofing tar.
Go recycle some beer cans and cough up $40 for Dynomat... or leave it alone IMO.
