Remove automatic shifter nob

How do you remove the automatic shifter nob. There looks to be a staple in the front part of it, do you just take that off? Its pretty hard to pry off

pull that staple straight out and the knob will come off !

Nope, i'm changing my tan cloth interior over to black and red leather. I needed to get the carpet out and I couldn't lift up the center console without removing the shifter nob. Right now i'm getting ready to dye the carpet black.
