An editor over at Cars.com, driving between Chicago and Detroit, noticed a bright blue 2010 Chevy Camaro RS (http://jalopnik.com/398828/production-2010-chevy-camaro-revealed) just hanging out at a gas station outside of the Motor City. We're assuming the manufacturer-plated car is probably either an early pre-production model or from GM's captive test fleet. Either that or a cash-strapped GM decided to save money by not advertising the car's release and there are a bunch of them sitting at Chevy dealerships where they'll likely never be discovered. Probably not. [Kicking Tires (http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2008/11/carscom-spots-n.html)]

350 HRSS 11-18-2008, 09:16 AM LOVE the blue :o
Rob V 11-18-2008, 11:18 AM I take it that is the Aqua Blue Metallic that people hated from the photoshops... What have people been saying all along, Wait until you see it in person...?
jg95z28 11-18-2008, 11:26 AM If that is Aqua Blue Metallic then I am in love! :D

I still hate it.
Brangeta 11-18-2008, 12:14 PM I kind of agree with CTK1. It looks better than I thought it would, but 10 years from now, it's going to look cheap. It's just not a good paint mix. It looks... cheap, for lack of a better word. There's no dimension to the paint at all.
Kevin L 11-18-2008, 12:32 PM Did anybody else notice the large gaps between the hood and front fascia? I hope that production cars will not suffer the same problem.
blue 79 Z/28 11-18-2008, 12:44 PM hurting effort for a color IMO, doesnt flatter the car at all. anyone see the new 2010 mustang lineup? now that blue is something.

Tsujin 11-18-2008, 01:12 PM Looks great, happy to finally see it. Not nearly as 'hideous' that people were claiming it was, and is one of my top choices for the color I'll put on my car.
99SilverSS 11-18-2008, 01:26 PM That Michigan overcast lighting is about as bad for dark colors as any there is so if it looks acceptable there it'll look much better in good light.
2lane69 11-18-2008, 01:37 PM No imaginary light conditions will help that color, it's the most sorry, lackluster hue of blue I've seen in my life....some of you may recall this color from various Alero's, Grand Prix's, Geo's, and the like. Nice work GM, if you think this color will sell Blue, you're going to be discounting alot of them....right when you can't afford to. This color looks very, very cheap and I would bet dollars to doughnuts that GM knows this, and this is the exact reason it wasn't offered for the SS initially.
Ford got it right...how hard was that? GM has the color palette...use it!

Ford has done well on the blue hues used on the Mustangs recently. Atlantic blue on the '98s was a great. Sonic blue on the 03 Cobra was amazing and it looks like they have kept that tradition alive on the 2010.
Big Als Z 11-18-2008, 03:56 PM Meh...PM me when there is a VR one parked in front of my house, keys in it, SS model...please.
JasonD 11-18-2008, 04:16 PM Did anybody else notice the large gaps between the hood and front fascia? I hope that production cars will not suffer the same problem.
We can hope! :) Fit and finish doesn't always apply to pilot cars when compared to the level of a full production run vehicle.
I believe that the 1993 Camaro was one of the first (if not THE first) production vehicle to use laser cameras to measure body fitment, etc. Since the quality then is not as good as it should be today, they won't likely allow this car to be worse than 15 years ago, and they won't likely let a car leave the assembly line with pieces obviously not fitting...even when being noticed through a low-res camera phone image.

Personally, I'd rather have Aqua Blue over Imperial Blue, and that's what I intend to order.
97QuasarBlue3.8 11-18-2008, 04:56 PM I <3 Blue Camaros.
Primus 11-18-2008, 05:20 PM There are *still* new Solstice's on the lot that have fit issues. Hopefully that's due to the newer stamping method they used for the panels. Wonder if that same stamping method is used on the Camaro...
Chevycobb 11-18-2008, 05:32 PM blue doesn't look that bad in those pics, but it just isn't right to win me over from black...the blue on that mustang on the other hand.....
JakeRobb 11-18-2008, 05:34 PM Me likey.
HuJass 11-18-2008, 07:35 PM The Aqua Blue looks like a melted crayon.

I agree. I'm a huge fan of blue even though my sig doesn't imply it, and I'm just not overwhelmingly satisfied with that aqua color. When I think of the perfect blue, I get ideas of the ocean in my head.

79Zee28 11-18-2008, 09:23 PM The more images I see the more I just need to wait to see which color will be my final choice. If I was going for black or white, it would be a lot simpler. I want a brite color that pops out at you. I'm sure at the Carlisle, PA show in June (Camaro Nationals) they'll have a bunch to look at. As far as the hood fit, I've also been a little concerned. I've noticed it in a few pictures. This hood must be tougher to align than lets say the Mustang hood. I'm sure they'll get it right. Back in '79 when I picked up my Z28, you kind of accepted gaps. No more.
CLEAN 11-18-2008, 09:47 PM The color has a greenish aqua shade in person. It doesn't show up in these pix either because of the lighting or the camera, so don't get your hopes up for this exact shade. That said, it does look VERY good in person.
christianjax 11-19-2008, 06:20 AM I did see this color in person on a HHR and I have to say that it is less hideous in person. That said, it STILL isn't the shade I was hoping for. That Mustang however is hitting the mark. But I will be buying the Camaro not the Mustang. I was really hoping for a blue with white stripes, but unless that Aqua Blue grows on me a LOT more (Imperial blue is not an option for me, way too dark IMO) It looks like I might go with Inferno Orange, at least it will match my Busa.
Chevycobb 11-19-2008, 07:33 AM that blue, IMO, looks too bland. it just doesn't have that pop that I would be looking for.
Doug Harden 11-19-2008, 08:08 AM Not buying that.........

dollars to doghnuts... where the heck did that expression come from anyway? what else would you give in exchange for doughnuts?!?! hehe.
About the comparison to Ford... it isn't fair to compare colors based on pictures of a pre-production camaro in overcast weather taken with a regular every day camera to the professional pictures of the mustang that have had lots and lots of touching up and tweaking done to them. There are all kinds of lighting effects in the mustang pictures. Having said that, I don't particularly care for the blue on the Camaro either. I like dark, deep blues.
This looks like the first gen blue color and the '85 camaro/iroc color. the '86-87 camaro blue color was bright blue metallic which was darker.
Everything old is new again.
Primus 11-19-2008, 11:57 AM dollars to doghnuts... where the heck did that expression come from anyway? what else would you give in exchange for doughnuts?!?! hehe.
answer:
DOLLARS TO DOUGHNUTS (or donuts) - "The almost forgotten terms 'dollars-to-buttons' and 'dollars-to-dumplings' appeared in the 1880s, meaning 'almost certain' and usually used in 'I'll bet you dollars-to-buttons/dumplings.' They were replaced by 1890 with the more popular 'dollars-to-doughnuts' (a 1904 variation, 'dollars-to-cobwebs,' never became very common, perhaps because it didn't alliterate)." From "Listening to America" by Stuart Berg Flexner (Simon and Schuster, New York, 1982).

Do you realize that I'm talking about the color pictured? I would venture a guess that this won't be a popular color. I have yet to see it in person, but I haven't seen a pic yet where it looks good. Lighting and camera notwithstanding. Here's a very, very crappy cell phone pic of my truck, poor lighting, whatever the excuse you want to use. That doesn't change the fact that this blue is stunning in any light. I've seen the recent blues on Mustangs and they are stunning in any light as well...I expect the same from the pics I have seen of the '10 model. This is the kind of blue GM should have offered.
Nobody is going to mistake this for a melted blue/green crayon.

Here's another crappy pic, next to a light aqua/teal '65 Imp. I had a '66 in high school that was the exact same color, so I grabbed this shot in a parking lot....I wouldn't fault GM for attempting to use this color...but I have my doubts on whether or not it would work on the new Camaro.

Bradl1982 11-21-2008, 03:05 AM That mustang blue on the first page looks much better.

I couldn't agree with you more!
Rob V 11-21-2008, 12:54 PM I showed my father the Camaro picture and he made an interesting comment... He said it is the same, if not extremely close to the colour of his Warwick Blue 69 Firebird...
detroitboy 11-21-2008, 03:44 PM It looks better than the blue challenger I saw on the road last week...UGH!
That is a very unsporty looking blue, doesn't work for me. They need a color like the IROC-Z metallic or quasar metallic, seems like the 5th Gen blues are too light and then too dark with no inbetween.
2lane69 11-24-2008, 04:17 PM I showed my father the Camaro picture and he made an interesting comment... He said it is the same, if not extremely close to the colour of his Warwick Blue 69 Firebird...
I think it's close. My '69 Firebird was Warwick blue as well, and appeared to be somewhat close to this, but I could only see the blue/green hue in the jams when it was disassembled to go completely Black the correct way, and my memory fades. I did not paint it that blue for the same reason I don't like this one.
I saw an HHR this color at the dealership this weekend, and still I remain duly unimpressed. I followed a '92 or so Grand Prix to work today, nearly the same color....which I found to be humorous as we routinely make fun of the 'Teal-esque', cars that inundated the roads in the late 80's/early 90's every time we see one managing to cling to life. Nothing quite says 'I love the 80's' like a Teal Geo Storm, or Beretta Z26(?), etc.
