Any ideas on the 2010 convertible? Will that be coming?

As far as I know, the convertible will come out in 2010 as a 2011 model.

No Challenger Convertible, Camaro on Hold

http://www.motortrend.com/features/auto_news/2008/112_0901_no_challenger_convertible_camaro_on_hold/index.html

Chrysler will not offer a Dodge Challenger convertible. The car is "dead as a doornail," a source says. And the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro convertible planned for midyear 2009 is on hold. Blame thin operating capital at Chrysler LLC and General Motors, the latter determined to fend off bankruptcy.

Chrysler designed the LX-based Challenger without planning for a convertible. That may be hard to believe, but it means re-engineering the unibody Challenger as a convertible would take the kind of money that Chrysler doesn't have.

The Camaro convertible is off the table probably for a year as GM tries to save cash and claw its way back to profitability. Analysts predict U.S. car and light truck sales in '09 will be even worse than in '08 and the Chevy Volt and Cruze will have to succeed before GM can spend on such extravagances. Whether the Camaro convertible comes back from the hiatus depends on how well GM weathers the storm. If GM's situation improves, Chevrolet could return the Camaro convertible to its product plans for the 2011 model year, just in time to add a fresh new version of the car.

This is good news for Ford, which suffered steep declines in Mustang sales in 2008. The V-6 Mustang convertible has otherwise been a strong seller in the Ford lineup.

I don't ever recall GM saying the convertible was on the table for mid-year 2009 - they've been telling us mid-year 2010. And between the wheels and the paint, that green Challenger is hideous.

From what I have heard the vert was supposed to go into production in December of 2010. Now what I hear is summer 2010 as a 2011 model.
Only pushed back about 6 months but with the way the economy is who knows. I was holding out for a vert but if I cannot get one I may have to get a Shelby GT 500 vert.

All the aforementioned is why I cancelled my 2 year old order at my dealer on the convertible and switched to the coupe. I think a lot of things are going to be on hold with the big 3 for awhile except discontinuing the manufacturing of duplicate vehicles under different badges.

This industry as we know it is going to change....but I'm sure it will survive in a downsized and more efficient condition.

all true.

I would also add anythng and everything is subject to change as GM is fighting for its survival.

I reallly wanted to wait for the vert, but I have already waited 6 years, so I think I'll settle for the coupe. The way things are, waiting another year and a half is hard to think of.

Just got back from Orlando and was in a bar drinking with a die/stamping gentleman who is on the Camaro program. I asked about the vert and he said we shall see some preproduction ones on the road this spring/early summer with production ramping up in late december early January with a release in the late spring/early summer as a 2011 model. He also went into details with me about the now on Hiatus Z/28. Let me tell you they had some really good things in store but got shelved. Think 1LE with a supercharged LS9 with special ground effects, hood, spoiler etc.

Now why is that funny? He showed me his ID badge I asked.
I have no reason to doubt him. He also had some good info about the Volt and further cars in the program that I cannot go into much detail about.
He did say the final dyes are being set for the Volt right now.

Jason and Chris said the Vert is on track for the original date to be released as a 2011 modle so as I will wait at lest a year and that is it, save more money and if it still is not out by then I will get a 2SS RS 6speed coupe.

That is what I posted. This guy was in charge of making the dyes and tooling for the coupe and convertible. They are in the process right now of tooling the convertible. Expect to see the pre production ones on the road by early summer 2009. He did say ordering would be happening just like the coupe only a year later with a March - May release to the dealers as a 2011 model.
Good news for me at least as I am getting a 1SS/RS Inferno Orange Vert.

instead of doing a vert, why not try T-tops? might be a little less costly and would be unique as the only car on the market offering such an option

i think he was probably more laughing at the z/28 stuff, because this man probably would know nothing about stuff like that if he was just a die/stamping guy... if he would even know the other stuff...

t-tops arent coming, ever... a vert makes more sense, t-tops just dont fit with this car...

Actually he was the engineer in charge of stamping. They had to figure out how to make the new hood with the LS9 supercharged version under the hood. Also had to figure out how to get the ground effects, spoiler, etc, new facia on it.
I guess the hood was like the old Stinger hoods of the 60's to fit the supercharger. He may have been blowing smoke but the way he discussed it didn't seem so to me. He really did not have to think about what he was saying.

I've talked to several BS artists who could stare you in the face and string together a story that, while awfully entertaining, contained no more than a fraction of truth, and they could do it all right on the spot without hesitation.

Back in June when the details of the Camaro were just coming out, Motor Tread report that the Z28 may come out in 2012 with the supercharger from the vette. Now if they shelved it until later, I can buy that. I was hearing that the Z28 was going to be the "TOP OF THE LINE" just like the ZR1 vette. So we may not see it for sometime.
As for the T-tops, that did not show up until the 2nd gen. So I am not surprise that we will not see it on this model. Now, if GM changes the body type in the future....never say never.

Does anyone care to apologize to me now that I was flamed and laughed at about the Z/28 and me talking to the engineer on the program now that the picture has surfaced in another thread?

I wasn't involved in the conversation, but based on my years of experience on this forum (as an observer)... I wouldn't start holding my breath for an apology any time soon if I were you
