I think I might be the only member of this forum that is going to be ordering a base model car. I figure gears, mild engine mods, brakes and lighter wheels would make it an awesome daily driver and would probably make an even better autocross car than the SS.

they will have to sell far more base cars than SS cars anyway. Good luck with yours

Sounds like a good solid plan to me. I am quite sure that you are far from the only one. Be sure to keep us posted on the progress!

Base model cars are the way to recapture market from other segments (especially Asian). It's sure to be the lion's share of the car's success. Besides, what's the definition of a base car now:;)

300 HP Direct Injected V6
6 speed trans
rear independent suspension
4 wheel disk brakes
6 air bags
cruise control
remote keyless entry
Stabilitrack with traction control
tire pressure monitors
satellite radio
AC
Add to that 0-60 under 6 seconds and a sub 14 quarter mile and I'd say
LS is the new base Bro!

Could this be possibly the best base car available comparing apple to apples? I'd like
to see it if it's available. I doubt it. :)

We will see. I seriously doubt the sub 14 sec 1/4. More likely a mid 14 sec.

I'm not even sure that the Camaro LS can be considered a base car...

I'm betting 14.10-30 stock and 13.9 with tune/cold air/exhaust

In my opinion, you're getting the best Camaro model.

For $23K and some change, you're getting 300 horsepower, IRS, 4 wheel discs, a 6 speed, things you simply can't get in a sub 30K import. You can't even get the stick and 4 wheel discs on the base Challenger. Not to mention styling and what is said to be the latest highwater mark in GM quality.

Sure, the SS has over 420 horsepower and there's isn't another car on the planet that matches it at the price save the R/T Challenger. But you're going to be paying $30K too. It's still a steal, but it's less of a steal than the V6 model, and the V6 is likely to have better handling balence as well.

Yea gone are the days of the V-6 model just being crap. Remember the hubcaps, rear drums, no cd player, and crappier transmission? I can't believe it but I am actually considering buying a V-6. IF you knew me that would be an amazing shocker to you.

I found this on youtube.

"This is a video of my Cadillac CTS 0 to 60. I have a 3.6L V6 with modified Volant Intake, full custom exhaust and a computer tune from Big 3 performance. I think I could shave a couple tenths off with a better launch.
I timed it with a video editing program and it came out to EXACTLY 6 seconds."

The 'base' Camaro is an amazing car both on the track and the road........

It has great 'tossability' -- esp. with the 6-speed manual transmission.........it IS a wolf in sheep's clothing............

(......wait a minute...........there isn't ANYTHING 'sheepish' about the new Camaro......)

I have considered the thought of a V6, too.

I admit, I was of the belief a V6 Camaro isn't the 'REAL DEAL' but for my humble purpose, it would suit me fine. But I'd probably regret not having the V8 sound... and I wouldn't want to have any regrets later on... so I think the V8 is the better personal choice, price permitting.

If i were to order a camaro today, it'd be the v6.I can't think of another car that matches its combination of pricing, appeal, style, and list of standard equipment for under 25k. Nothing really even comes close.

Agreed. IMO the V6 is by far the "best bang for the buck" on the market today. I'm very interested in seeing more images of the 1LT and 1LS.

v6 for me please...

My V8 hardly touches the street, I like to drive my v6 daily and leave the 8 for track (some times it happens).

I really think this F5 V6 IS the best choice for the market, and the v8 is just the toy we all want to have to put the sticker "NO, YOU CANīT DRIVE IT"

Ditto here. The V6 looks like a solid package for daily driving & moderate track use. Insurance, annual registration, fuel mileage, all will be less costly & offer up advantages. The extra $$$ you save on them can go a long way towards gas & race tires, which are a big equalizer at the track.

There is no 'bad' choice in a 5th gen Camaro.

The LS is actually a very interesting car and I think you will be thrilled with your choice. Post up the pix when you take delivery!

You wouldn't believe all the crap I've taken over ordering the V6 from all my co-workers! I am surrounded by type-A personalities, but I think they will be quite envious when they see the actual car. Nothing else for the money can touch this thing and its features. I'm stoked!

I have the 2SS w/RS ordered and the more I think about it, I can set up a 2LT the same for $7K less just giving up the SS badge and the V8. Hmmm.

Just remember that 6 speed is NOT the TR6060. You're getting a light duty foreign made tranny with that v6.

That U-tube video was not a direct injection 3.6, it was the 255 horsepower version with some mods done. Sounds great!

I ordered a V-6 2010 camaro on october 20th, much better decision than the turd V-6 challenger i test drove one week earlier. This black camaro will replace my daily driver 87 turbo regal limited. I cant wait to test drive it.
