tire size

hey i have 275.40.17's on my zr-1 wheels. I think they are 17x9 maybe? anyway i was wondering if for the fronts if 245-40-17's would fit saftley? thanks

Factory and most repro ZR1 wheels are 9.5" wide. A 245/40-17 will fit safely on a 9.5 wide wheel according to most tire manufacturers, but its going to look very "stretched, like its too narrow. Its also the wrong size tire for your car. Its only 24.7" outside diameter, about 1" smaller than the tires that came on your car (if it had the Z-rated tire option, almost 1.5" smaller if it had the base tires). At a minimum, you want a 245/45-17.

Not sure what the point is of getting real wide wheels, then putting a narrow tire on them.

hey thanks they came with the car and they are all over the road, yes i just had it aligned and i talked to a local camaro guy and he said he had the same prob and went to a smaller tire in front.
