How much would you pay?

I just found this 2002 SS hood on Craigslist:

He's asking $550 for it. Says it's immaculate. How much would you pay?

If you can talk him down, great. But if he thinks he can get that much, he's not going to go down much. If you want a factory SS hood it's going to cost you.

That's what I was thinking, too. Maybe I can get him down to $500, depending on if there are any scratches or dents. But the guy says it's immaculate, so we'll see.

Lots of people have different definitions for immaculate. It's definitely something I'd want to put my eyes on first. :)

If the hood is the same color as your car, I wouldn't see the problem paying that price for the hood. (and you can always get the other parts of the stripe kit for your car) But if your car is a different color, then I'd try to either find one that's less expensive or try and talk him down a bit.

Well, It's not the same color as my car, but I was going to claim rock damage to my hood (there are a few missing paint chips) with my insurance to get the hood painted for cheap.

And from what I heard, you can just use a heat gun to take off those decals. Anyone had experience with that?

If you're not going to have to pay shipping on it, you really can't beat that price since it's local to you.

^ good point. Now as far as picking it up, It's about an hour away from where I live, and I dont have a truck or anything. Should I drive there with no hood on and put his on when I get there, or just tie it to the top of my car? Has any one ever done the latter, cuz if it's not that difficult, that would be my preferred way.

Hmm... that's a tough one. I'm not sure. I swear there was a guy on here who said the hood fits in the hatchback with the seats down and the hatch half open, but I'm really not sure... and doubt it...

The hood supposedly takes a long time to put on, especially adjusted properly.

Well if you don't want the old hood anymore ask the guy if you can do a swap and just leave it there. I wouldn't recommend tying it on the roof because a million things could go wrong, if it's not illegal i would just drive over there with no hood and be done with it.

Thanks for the input. I got someone with a minivan to drive over there with me, so I can just put it in the back of it. Now, how long will it take to put it on, because if it doesnt take too long, I'd like to fitment test it before I buy it. Or is that unnessessary since it's an OEM hood?

Since it's OEM it should fit fine.

Putting the new hood on takes less than undoing and redoing less than a dozen bolts. There are two in each hinge, two in each hood strut mount, and two in the latch. When I got the hood on my Z, I drove to Greensboro, NC from Charleston. We swapped them out on the spot and had the new one on in less than an hour.

Well, I just went and bought it yesterday. $500 big ones. hood's pretty nice, I'll have pics posted soon.
