2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 01:19 PM so i ordered my camaro last monday when we first found out we could order. my dealer didnt have the pricing available when i placed my order. so today i went in and asked them if they had the pricing and if they could get me some sort of an invoice for my sale. they told me they got the pricing but it was all subject to change. is this normal??? this is the first car i have ever ordered and first one that isnt even available yet. i just want to know if this is ok or if i need to get something from them that i dont have. any help?
Bearcat Steve 10-24-2008, 01:23 PM A sales order is a contract between you and the dealer. NEVER sign anyhting without a price.
2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 01:26 PM i havent signed anything yet. the only thing i have is a sold order form from when i placed my order.
srtclg1007 10-24-2008, 01:35 PM GM's pricing is NOT subject to change. Your dealers pricing may be subject to change. But if you get it in writing then you'll be covered. I got an invoice with my pricing from my dealer that said exactly what the sale price is going to be when my order arrives.

GM could change their prices at any time (not that I expect them to)
2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 03:11 PM so should i get some sort of invoice from them or should i wait?
8Banger 10-24-2008, 03:35 PM so should i get some sort of invoice from them or should i wait?
Just be sure before you sign it is the price you are expecting, then you will
be assured of your deal . MSRP is MSRP so unless they are going to rape you
you should be fine. Pricing is available, so if they are not willing to set a price
now, then look out that your not going to have to grab your ankles.
2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 04:07 PM well what if they dont set my price in until my order is already sent to the plant? if they mark me up or try to tell me some BS, can i back out? or am i entitled to buy the one that i ordered?(only backing out if they change the price on me.) i was already told by the salesman that i was getting msrp but they havent put it in paper.

it doesn't matter AT ALL if they put in writing and you sign as much paperwork as you want. When the car gets there, they can still back out and mark it up. The car is, literally, NOT yours until you physically drive it off the lot.
2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 05:11 PM well, i dont see them goign behind my back and selling it so this could work for my advantage IF they try to screw me. and actually if i get it in writing it is a legal contract negotiated between the 2 parties.
srtclg1007 10-24-2008, 05:32 PM If you sign a contract, you ARE protected. You're price is not subject to change. There are numerous laws that protect the consumer in these circumstances. Dealers must comply with them or face license revocation and/or fines.
2010_5thgen 10-24-2008, 09:13 PM so i just need to get them to put it in writing my price(msrp)? and what if they keep telling me that it is "subject to change"?
Fbodfather 10-25-2008, 01:04 AM GM can change pricing at any time - BUT -- if your order is a 'sold' order, we give 'price protection' to the dealer........so that the price on your car will not go up.......
DAKMOR 10-25-2008, 01:19 AM But don't worry, Ford won't raise the price of the new 2010 Mustang a lick, it's been promised by our own members here. They don't work for Ford or are associated with Ford in anyway, but we have been assured and we'll eat crow otherwise, MMMmMm CROW!
~on topic. I expected a Price subject to change line, they aren't even making them yet as far as I know.
GTOJack 10-25-2008, 07:47 AM GM gave Ford some room for price increases when they priced the Camaro $3000 over the Mustang.
I ordered a 96 Impala SS and the MSRP went up $500 or so and the dealer said I had to pay it when the car came in. So I told them I was going to call the 1-800 Chevy number to see what they had to say about it. They changed their tune pretty quick and said I was price protected.

so what do i need to do to be sure that i am not going to get ripped off when the car comes in and we do the paper work?

When did you place your order???
I checked a few days ago and my dealer did not have pricing from GM.
All priceing that I have found on the web so far all say Subject to Change.
Has anyone else received final pricing??
Also, if you have a signed agreement with your dealer (not sure how you would without a price) they cannot legally renig, not in PA. Check your state laws to be sure. A freind had this happen and he had to contact the District Attorney. The dealer was fined and had to abide by the contract. This was a few years ago so check the laws of your state.

Let me rephrase that --
Your name is "Smith" - you order a new Camaro under the name 'smith" -- the dealer submits the 'sold' order with 'smith' as the name of the customer....
the price increases --
You take delivery under the name of "smith" -- you are price protected.
Your name is "smith" -- you order a new Camaro under the name of "brown" - the dealer submits the 'sold' order with 'brown" as the name of the customer....
The price increases --
You try to take delivery under the name of "smith" -- you are not price protected.
Make SURE when you order the vehicle that you order it under the name that you will take delivery under -- and register under........

i only have 1 name i plan on putting the car under.i was never told a price from them but a sales man told me msrp. as far as getting it on paper, i dont have it. is this normal that they havent given me any pricing, or i guess, that they wont lock in pricing with me? or should i really start to be concerned that they are going to change things on me?

i need to try to get a signed paper saying MSRP and not an actual number.

This is why I decided not to order. I couldn't get anyone to commit to MSRP. I got the distinct impression they wanted the wiggle room to change their minds. I would be concerned without anything in writing.
