What can be done to the stock Salad Shooters?

I am looking to do something to my stock salad shooters. Paint? Polish? Something!?!? I know they will need to be stripped. Can they be polished? Is it to much of a P.I.T.A?!? Anyone do this already? Pictures?

I thought about doing this to my black 94 z28.
But just bought a set of chrome 10 spokes.
