Sumitomo 315/35zr17's vs MT/ET 255/50r16's?

I'm looking into widening my wheels and buying some 315s for them. Tirerack sells them for $99 each. Traction wise, how good are they? I was thinking of selling my barely used pair of MT/ET streets if they are any good.

Anyone run those tires? What do you think? I'm going to get them regardless, but if they are good for traction, I might as well get rid of the ET streets as I never use them anyway.

I would stay with the MT's. Sumo's are crap. Plus the 50mm sidewall is going to really help compared to the 35.

Dont buy cheap tires, they kill acceleration, handling, braking. Pretty much all the mods you have done to the car. Thats my theory anyway.

They are currently on my car and I agree with the last post they are junk. The tread wear is terrible. They were on the car when I bought it and have about 15K-20K miles and the side walls are already starting to crack. They are super bad in the rain and even on dry pavement do not stick at all. I'm actually on the board now trying to figure out what set to get next.

I'll be keeping the MT/ETs. Check this out. This guy got the 315's to fit on stock wheels. He says the Firehawk wheels are 9.5" wide, I thought they were 9" like the WS6 wheels. But it's a thought. There's an explanation link at the bottom of how he got them to fit. I might give it a shot before I ship the wheels out.

As for the tire, the the formy isn't my DD. That's what my GTP is for. At most it will see 5k a year, at most. So 20k isn't bad. But you said they are crappy? How soon did you notice they went to crap? I go through tires in like 15k anyway.
