i finally got around to putting my airbox on my Z and i don't understand how it's supposed to fit? what ever it is that sticks up from the drivers side exhaust manifold is right where the airbox needs to be. am i missing something? it seems two things need the same space. it's been too long since it was on my SS for me to remember. help?

i think what your referring to with the exhaust manifold is the egr tube. the air box should sit plenty far in front of the tube without any clearance issues. what brand of intake did you buy? maybe then we could help you out some more

The EGR tube does not stick up from the driver's side exhaust manifold. Its in the very back of the engine, attached to the passenger side manifold, and is nowhere near the SS intake track. Possibly its the AIR components, including the check valve for the driver's side manifold?

If he is talking about the stock airbox that sits on top of the motor, I don't remember anything getting in the way of the tube that leads from the TB, above the driver's side valve cover, and up to the top of the plenum. The PCV is over there though, right? We're gonna need a pic.

I believe you can loosen the nut up and rotate it which should give you the clearance you need.

also I went to look at mine but I forgot I already took out the AIR pump so it won't help you. :lol:

well if i turn the AIR tube i would need a bigger rubber hose to fit on because i would need more slack. it seems like since this was an option directly from SLP they would have wanted to make it a direct fit. i think i might say forget it...im selling the car next summer anyway.
another problem...i cut the zip tie holding the fuel lines when i was trying to fit the air box before. well when i was looking at it today i realized the lines were up against the AIR tube and the vent line (i guess?) is melted all the way closed off it looks like. it is not the supply or return line thankfully, but should i be worried about this being melted?

You're really lucky one of the fuel lines didn't melt through, and burn your car to the ground. Put the clip back on the throttle linkage cover, to hold the bundle up off the AIR piping. What you melted is the vacuum line to the EVAP charcoal canister in the driver's rear fender. If the line is open, you are now pulling air into the intake manifold when the EVAP purge valve opens to purge the fuel vapor from the canister. If the line is melted closed, the EVAP system can't purge, and eventually you may notice a fuel smell from the EVAP canister.

i know i'm very lucky i didn't burn through the fuel line...lesson learned :o. i smell fuel from inside the car as it is every morning...before i did this. any idea why that would be? how urgent is it that i fix the vacuum line? i have a whole extra set of rubber lines i can use, but would it be fine to cut out the bad section and fit it back together with a slightly larger section of tubing? it is just vapor in the line right? hmm couldn't the vapor line have lit up when the line melted? :think:
