Looks great, this is just what Chevy needs to replace drying up SUV sales.

The intermingling of previously distinct automotive segments continues with the latest crossover concept car to come out of Chevrolet’s design studios. Going by the name of ‘Orlando,’ the concept combines elements of an SUV, family van and a wagon to create one of the most unique additions to the growing world of the crossover.

Based on the recently announced Cruze compact sedan, the Orlando show car features flared fenders instead of a flat side-body to give a stronger, SUV-esque appearance. The ‘family van’ and ‘wagon’ segments come in with the Orlando’s seven-seat capability, supposed car-like handling, and easy entry thanks to its car-based architecture.

Chevrolet is hoping to display its creativity in the segment with this crossover concept, as well as attempt to separate itself from a reputation among Europeans as a brand of large, unwieldy American vehicles.

The Orlando concept certainly fits this bill, seating seven occupants and featuring a generous 2,760mm (108.6") wheelbase and wide front and rear tracks to maximize interior space. Despite its size, fuel economy for the concept is also expected to be above average, due to it being powered by a compact 2.0L turbodiesel developing 150hp and 320Nm of torque.

Not something that I'd personally be interested in, but I think the styling, at least in the drawing, looks to be a lot more sophisticated / 'grown up' than other offering in this segment.

That's a weird place for a shifter...

Honda did that on one of the civic generations. And I think the Honda Fit is that way, too. Not that it looks right, but it didn't seem to effect the Honda buyers.

I guess this would replace the HHR. Looks pretty good.

We're clearly running out of cool, exotic cities to name cars after. I can't wait for the upcoming Pontiac Poughkeepsie!

I imagine the name will change before production.

Nice setup - a bit lower, and it'd be very European. It hits where the Caliper largely missed.

This sort of vehicle probably makes more sense for most SUV buyers, and it'll be more affordable than a Lambda.

Can you imagine a beach cruiser version with a surfboard rack on the roof?

How about a special edition Disco Tony "Orlando" and Dawn version with retro 1970's van styling. (Just how large of a water bed can you fit in back?) :D

IP looks to be similar to or same as the Camaro

Almost looks like it was taken directly from Camaro's parts bin....

I don't mind it... as the article states it's a 7-seater, would it be more a RAV4 rival or Highlander?

I would say more RAV4, it is delta based afterall.

Yeah, I guess this is the "wagon" version of the Cruze as HHR was to the Cobalt. I think it looks good, too. Hopefully it has some similar fuel economy to the Cruze. Could be a big winner.

Perhaps you missed the word "concept" in the title. Its not currently planned for production anywhere. :p

So what production version is the concept based off of? This doesn't look like a design study "concept". It looks more like a "are people going to buy this if we put it into production" concept. It looks too final to be just a concept.

Read the the article, I believe it said it was based off the Chevy Cruze.

I'm just saying that it would be very easy to move from concept to production with this vehicle as is. Plus, the way some talked in this thread, I thought it was going to see the light of day. It would be nice to see a Cruze size vehicle with Lambda seating capacity and an engine to pull it all. I'd bet they would sell a ton. Could GM offer the new Equinox in an extended version and have similar seating capacity?

My wife and I like the elbow room we have in the Tahoe. :D
