Whatever times they have so far, they are not final. They are still testing and refining the cars as I type this.

I thought I remember hearing about an 8:20 or something like that.

I find it amazing that people can participate on a message board without actually reading anything. ;);)

Isn't a message board also to ask questions? I know you don't like the bashing of the 5th gen for obvious reasons, but... honestly... I like GM and I feel.. a bit let down.. They turned this car into a "sports car" and yet it doesn't deliver where it should? I have been trying to look some other positives on the 5th gen to justify my purchase and modification for one... but i just see it as a dead end platform.

I mean.. the GTO has less weight and it has the same platform why should you buy a new car with the economy how it is that simply doesn't justify its being?

I was referring to post #3 in this thread that you must have missed before you made post #5.

the times they had at the ring was early on in chasis tuning and they hit snow squalls on one end of the 'ring. they only had one day there, since the 'ring was just one stop of many across Europe

You guys are crazy!!!. The Viper ACR ran a 7:22 at the ring.I dont even want to know how much that car costs.
your forgetting how close that time comes to a C5 Z06

8:20 is really good, for being in the snow, and not fully tuned

Don't jump to conclusions. How many times do the circumstances of the time have to be described only to be repeatedly ignored?

You don't know anything about where it does or does not deliver other than the exterior which falls under matter of opinion. No one knows.

The C5 Z06 ran it in 7:56 which is a lot faster. But I agree that 8:20 is pretty fast.

That 8:20 is faster than tons of true sports cars have recorded at the ring, M3s, S2000s, NSX, numerous 911s, etc. You're flat out nuts for feeling let down, that's not even to mention it not being a final time w/ a finished car. It is a muscle car that still manages to handle well, get some perspective for crying out loud.

The C5 Z06 is much faster yes, but it is also a true world class sports car that puts cars costing twice as much to shame, and cost nearly twice what the SS will sell for if you adjusted for inflation between the years...

Then... why do we need an IRS?
Wasn't the purpose of an IRS to do better on the twisties? it added weight to do better around corners and such. If the car can't surpass the cobalt by a long shot.. then i don't know why the direction of the car.

I am looking for something that sells me the car again, as straight line acceleration (future modifications) is not the best platform overall.. Unless GM made it EXTREMELY simple to put in a live axle in there.

BTW the hitting on the rev limiter was beneficial on many circumstances on the viper video... and appears to be done intentionally.

its not a muscle car, it's a pony car.

If i'm not mistaken, it isn't even a muscle car but merely a sporty coupe, as it always was, wich were also called pony cars.

It's like people think that a Camaro should have -at least- the power of a corvette and the luxury of a Porsche, with a 500hp 2.4L 4 banger, just where do you compromise in your bizarro lives ?

In reality, i think the Camaro is gonna be one hell of a ride, a true head turner with class and enough cargo space for the groceries, while lapping 8:20 at the 'ring !!!! How more can you ask for ?

Oh yeak i forgot, you people want it all at 14,499$ weighing 1000 pounds.

People throw numbers around and usually have never even experienced what they think they are going to all of the sudden be let down on. I don't know what some people expect, but they usually haven't a clue what they 'think' they are missing in the first place. In my experience, the typical ring time nuthugger has never even driven a car at even 8/10's beyond an on-ramp.

OMFG, that car better do a 7:20 at the 'ring so I know I can pass that lady in the minivan on my way to Starbucks! What, it doesn't!!! I'm so done with that car! FTW!!!

The IRS isn't just for racing, it's for poise and balance driving to and from work and hauling the kiddies around in. Streets suck, racetracks usually don't have as much variation. This is why Mustangs do well on road courses even with a live axle. IRS has far more benefits for civility in a car like this than it does for racing. This car is/was/always has been about being a sporty coupe. That's what it is.
