ChrisL 08-25-2008, 08:19 AM Many thanks to fellow disciple KevinK for taking these GREAT shots at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch, and GM for allowing these pictures to be released today. Anyone saving pics, it was made very clear by GM to give credit to Kevin Kolvenbach if you post them elsewhere. Dont be putting your wartermarks on them and rehosting them.

CamaroRick 08-25-2008, 08:38 AM I'm really liking that SS front end..... Much more aggressive looking than the LS/LT !!!!
Ron78Z&01SS 08-25-2008, 09:20 AM Beautiful
Functional or not, I still like the slot to set apart the SS. Maybe these pics will change the minds of a few of the SS grill & "scoop" haters.
Mid-Life Crisis 08-25-2008, 09:25 AM After you click on the thumbnails make sure to check out the larger sizes by clicking on the links under the pic.
I wish there were more pics of the rear.
polo3433 08-25-2008, 09:43 AM Are those the halogen lights I'm seeing because they don't look like the halo lights I been seeing. I notice it doesnt have the RS on the grille maybe that is the reason why.

those are the base headlamps. RS pkg adds the halos

The SS emblem is Red apparently if you add the RS package to an SS. Otherwise it's white (like it is above).
At least that's what someone said on the board a few weeks back.

I have a feeling we're not going to see the SS/RS until Indy.

thats correct... and its kinda too bad that the halos arent standard, even though i do understand why... The halos just blow the standard lights out of the water in terms of looks...

OutsiderIROC-Z 08-25-2008, 11:28 AM Should be an SS emblem in place of the gold bowtie...
Eric77TA 08-25-2008, 12:21 PM I'm sure that there will be aftermarket SS emblems to replace the bowtie in the grille and on the tail. It's would be a great heritage cue having the SS in the grille, but since this is kind of a halo car for Chevy I think they want people to identify with it as a Chevrolet first and foremost, so they're sticking with the signature gold bowtie as the primary emblem with SS being smaller.

i agree. the brand is kinda in the dumpster, it needs a pick me up to get people to see value in it again.
99SilverSS 08-25-2008, 12:35 PM I'm trying hard to like the SS nose but I still like the V6 nose better. It just flows more and stays true to the concept. If the mailslot was functional then it would be important but since it isn't I could live without it. I'm hoping that GM accessories will have some grille options like say the horizontal ones we saw on many of the test cars.

:peh, at this point, the size thing kind of lost its lustre. the whole point of it (from my take of it atleast) was that it was hoped to be small, meaning it would be lighter.
KevinK 08-25-2008, 01:57 PM im wondering how far behind the vette the camaro really is.
...about 3'.
We were taking some pics of the SS, ...and Dave came around with the Vette, ...so we took a couple shots.

I feel the same way. I was just looking at the thread regarding the C&D article and the V6's frt fascia looks better. Also, I'm not sure if anyone noticed, but the fogs on the SS are farther apart, seems it's because they needed the lower grille to be taller and wider either for cooling or for differentiation.
The upper grille would not look as bad if the parking lamps weren't there. It just doesn't seem right being the size and position they are at. Maybe if they put that 3 row grille on the prototype as an option and change the parking lamp to be in the 2nd row only on, it might look a lot better. Or if anything maybe take off the top parking light on the current grille.
Pruettfan 08-25-2008, 02:33 PM Love the pictures. Thanks to all of you who made them possible to be released. I can see the differences in the front fascia between the LT and SS but I have to say I am fine with both. Personally I look at the car as a whole knowing that there are small details that I may not love but overall I love this car and cannot wait to have one in my hands. I don't compare the car to the concept because this is a production car so it has to hold up to far more requirements to survive the elements and be safe. Can't wait to see the SS in Red and one in Imperial Blue so I can make my color decision.
5thgen69camaro 08-25-2008, 02:37 PM Id like to see a picture with the current 5th Gen SS the #6 69 Sunoco car and the C6 ZR1 in one shot.

91Zman 08-25-2008, 02:55 PM Should be an SS emblem in place of the gold bowtie...yeah it should..I think that the current placement is too dodge-esque.
97QuasarBlue3.8 08-25-2008, 04:47 PM The new Camaro looks stunning as usual. But, I'm a little surprised that the SS isn't dressed up in "RS" uniform for it's first dance on the internet. And very surprised that it chose to wear silver.
The base SS is making my right foot twitch, but honestly, the RS/LT cars have more visual pop wearing their HID's, red badging, and "young" colors. Where's the RS/SS?
99SilverSS 08-25-2008, 05:50 PM Seems to me that this SS is probably the same one used on the TV Show My Own Worst Enemy and seen in the ad with Fergie. So that means to me that this silver SS is a IVER car pre-built for show purposes only and that they probably don't have any finished SS/RS models available to show just yet.
I agree why not make the first SS impression be of the RS variety showing all the details and options but maybe GM has a reason for this.
SSbaby 08-25-2008, 07:05 PM That looks very, very nice. I'm still undecided b/w the silver and yellow but traditionally, I have bought silver cars.
I'm most impressed! :D:cool:
HooliganZ 08-26-2008, 05:58 AM Absolutely stunning!!!! Too bad I'm not going to be able to get mine until I get back from Germany in 2012....until then I will be envying those of you who do have them!
KevinK 08-26-2008, 06:40 AM I'm sure that there will be aftermarket SS emblems to replace the bowtie in the grille and on the tail. ...branding as I think it's called. You pretty much hit the nail on the head, ...they want the car to be recognized ('branded') first and foremost, ...as a Chevrolet.
I don't have any inside info, ...but would have to believe, ..there will be SS emblems available to put front and center...

There are only a handful of (handbuilt) early cars, ...this silver SS being one of them. The 'silver' car in My Own Worst Enemy (was actually originally black) is an RS/SS (as is the black vert, ...seen in shots floating around)
Since it was a 'marketing' opportunity, ...my understanding is that that car was allowed to go for filming, ...and viewing on national TV.
The shots here are not 'official' GM photos, ...just some amatuer photographer (me) trying to take some shots. Indeed, I awaited Scott's OK to share them, ...and I think it's just that. In typical Scott fashion, ...he's doing his best to pass on what he can to the enthusiasts as soon as he can. I agree with you, ...when GM does reveal 'official' photos of the SS, ...I think it would serve them better to have the RS variety, ...to show a 'fully dressed' SS...
blackbirdta 08-26-2008, 07:16 AM eh, at this point, the size thing kind of lost its lustre. the whole point of it (from my take of it atleast) was that it was hoped to be small, meaning it would be lighter.
I saw that picture and got excited until I realized the camaro was further back. I would be very interested to see a true nose to nose shot. I can't wait to see this car on the ground...I've only see the concept up on a stage...
summerkc 08-26-2008, 09:30 AM Not a fan of that silver though, I think it makes the car look cheap and boring. Come on black!
Gripenfelter 08-26-2008, 09:38 AM Is the Camaro further away than the Vette? It looks like the Camaro is lower to the ground than the vette.

Unimpressive. Not only do the V6 and SS look too much alike, but the V6 car looks better. Bring on the Z28. I hope there are alot of dealer options to pretty this thing up.

Cool info. I dont know. My first thought were the pics were they were motor trend quality. I really like how Motor Trend makes vehicles look. If I had to nit pick Id say you cut a bit much off the bottom of the tires in some. Black SS with the Halos would have been sweet, but I think you did a great job. Thanks for sharing!
These two were perfect!

Has anyone seen the Lord of the Rings? Near the beginning of the first film, Gandalf and Frodo are sitting next to eachother in a wooden carriage with Frodo obviouslly being the smaller of the two. In real life the actor who plays Frodo is not that small, and that scene that they shot was not manipulated by a computer...what they did was they built the carriage in a funny way where Frodo sat a few feet further back than Gandalf to throw the perspective off, hence making Frodo look smaller.
It is possible that that is what is happening in this particular photo with the Camaro being parked farther back than the Vette, making the Camaro look smaller. Just an idea, because I somehow doubt that the Corvette is that big in comparison.
90 Z28SS 08-31-2008, 06:47 PM they dont appear to be drilled to me
Which is a good thing ;)
Lightmup7 08-31-2008, 10:37 PM Why doesn't the SS have real cuts on the front of the rear fender? Those fake ones should be for the V6 IMOP!!!! The more pics I see the less I see a MEAN ASS KICKING CAMARO that I've been dreaming of.

i think the dead giveaway was just looking at the wheel size. the largest corvette wheels are 19"

From pics and the TV show trailers of "My Own Worst Enemy" the silver SS appears to be very much like this one. No halo headlights and the SS badging is silver/chrome as opposed to red as was to be the designation for the RS/SS Camaros.

MegatronWP38 09-04-2008, 05:24 PM I can sum it up pretty easy, I WANT that car! :D
camarosource 09-06-2008, 10:29 PM Someone please explain to me what exactly if different between the RS we see and the SS? All I see is it's a "ss" emblem instead of "rs" and what appears to be the hood from the concept with the slot in the nose... I just don't see what is so different? What happened to the stripes were heard about?
Dragoneye 09-07-2008, 01:57 AM There's an altogether different front facia between the them:
There's the upper scoop, as you mentioned, but in addition, the fog lights are pushed to the closer to the edges, and there's an added crease above each one. Then there's a larger air dam and sort of a chin-spoiler, too.
afaik, the stripes (concept convertible style, or "hockey-stick") are available on any model, and aren't standard on the SS.

MAZ28 09-08-2008, 10:50 AM New SS looks great but I think GM should bring out the Z28 first that is the only name plate that belongs to camaro only SS is on to many cars, trucks, suv. Mike 98 Z28 sport gold camaro very rare 1le with a few mods headers/exhust/airbox/baer brakes/trickflow rearend/hurst short shifter:D:):yes:

FBodfather (Scott Settlemire) has said that the Z28 isn't cancelled, but we don't know what, or when it will be. But if Scott says it's coming - it's coming.
Looks nice. Are the body panels steel or composite like the ones on the fourth gen.?
They are steel.
2010_5thgen 10-07-2008, 02:53 PM if they dont do something about this z28 everyone is waiting for , its going to be too late once the CAFE regulations come into play in 2012
Andrewq86 10-08-2008, 08:22 PM The bottom half of the SS grill makes it look like a truck. I like the RS grill a lot better. i think the SS grill should be exactly the same but with the top nose slit. the RS grill looks more sleek and stylish. ChrisL 10-08-2008, 08:53 PM But if Scott says it's coming - it's coming.
lets be careful about what Scott did and didnt say. He never said it's coming. Just that its not dead.

I believe you mean the V6 grill, or LS/LT grill when you say "RS grill". RS is an appearance package that can be added to the LT or SS models. the RS package doesn't change the front nose of the car outside of the RS badge being present. RS does not designate the V6 or the model like it did on the 4th gens.
I'm glad I'm holding off to buy an 2011 - 2012 SS.
