Security features ???

I haven't heard or seen any security features on the 2010 Camaro, except for Onstar. Even when I try to build a G8 on the Pontiac site it doesn't have an option for an alarm. Is GM putting all their security features onto Onstar or will they have standard or optional features for security??

All of the GM cars that I have owned in the past several years have had a basic alarm as part of the factory remote door locks. The challange is finding a dealer that does not butcher the factory wiring to put their own crap in so they can rip you off. One of the local dealers does this on every car they sell which is why I won't buy from them ever.

most dealers have their own stuff installed now, this way all their sales guys can get into any car on the lot without having to go get the keys to unlock it.

This may be a local market thing - no dealers in Dallas do this. Some will offer to sell you an aftermarket alarm system, but none of them instal aftermarket items on the majority of their inventory as a normal procedure.

I presume the Camaro will come with a pretty normal modern Chevrolet alarm - i.e. some ignition switch codes, a shock sensor, beeping horn. Probably no fancy stuff like tilt sensors and interior motion sensors.

I'm guessing it'll have a chipped key in the integrated key/fob. Not like a PassKey resistor, but an actual chip. Standard automatic locks, alarm with shock sensor, and panic button, maybe wheel locks on the nicer wheel packages. And, probably the modern variant of Theftlock for the radio.

I am really hoping for a couple of things that I've been accustomed to on German cars-- like a key lockout switch for the trunk release, and locking rear seats to prevent passenger cabin access to the trunk. A locking console/glovebox would be great too.

It's a United Auto Group thing. Smaller dealers are less likely to have it, but i've seen these systems even in arizona. The finance manager will try to get you to buy an alarm, but if you don't buy, they just electronically disable the system they pre-installed.

In Arizona Earnhardt installs alarms on every car before they even hit the lot. They tried to charge me for it when I bought my pickup but I refused and told them to remove it. They ended up not charging me for it. About a year later I was installing XM and discovered that the alarm the installed hacked into the factory wiring. Needless to say I am pretty irritated about it.

it isn't the dealer per se that installs them, it's the alarm dealer who contracts it out to certain installers. but in a way, yes, it is the dealer who installs them.
