Of all the places for Chevy reveal the 2010 Camaro SS (http://www.autoblog.com/tag/2010CamaroSS/), it's chosen a GM-sponsored photo spread for Conde Nast. The free supplement's zeitgeist is "Fashion Rocks" and in keeping with the theme, they've chosen the decidedly un-rocking Fergie as the musical icon to accompany the Camaro SS on glossy stock.
Comparing the image above with the pictures Chevrolet released last month (http://www.autoblog.com/2008/07/21/2010-chevy-camaro-official-details-and-images/), you can clearly see the SS badging, deeper fascia and upgraded brakes, reported to be sized 14-inches up front and clamped by calipers by Brembo.
The Camaro SS will be packing a 422 hp (estimated), 6.2-liter V8 and will go on sale in March of next year, along with the V6 RS models.

+1. The car sells itself, it doesnt need some over aspiring and underwhelming singer hoggin the spot light. More Camaro  less Ferrgie
MetalDragon 08-21-2008, 11:56 PM Stand here while we test the brakes and stability / traction control......damn, they actually work. Good try, though.:irk:
Bradl1982 08-22-2008, 02:46 AM I don't see a problem with it. It's getting the word out to a broader audience. Aren't they trying to sell like 80K the first year? If so some of those are going to have to be Fergie fans.
Meatyshells 08-22-2008, 02:49 AM dont have to worry about fergi stealing any spot light away from the camaro

Wha... I didn't even notice her there until you said this.
ForYourMalice 08-22-2008, 09:22 AM It was just now that I noticed the side skirts on the SS.. I like. However, I'm still on the fence about the front fascia.. I haven't seen it from many angles, but the chin makes it look a little too sqaure in the front.
jg95z28 08-22-2008, 10:16 AM The only way a Camaro and that slampig should be in the same picture is if the car was dragging her down Hollywood Blvd.Just imagine its about to run her over. :p
ELMATONSS 08-22-2008, 11:30 AM love the pic, two great looking girls. (yeah i said it, theres nothing wrong with fergi)
on camaro terms: the SS looks great, i dont know if its the angle or the front bumber, but it looks "stronger" or more "macho compared to the LT/RS. You guys think the SS is lower? Or is it just me. One more thing, this pic makes me want to get the "mail slot" put on my LT/RS if i cant afford the SS.
99SilverSS 08-22-2008, 12:54 PM While I would've chosen several other famed hotties instead of Fergie she certainly isn't the hardest on the eyes. I wouldn't mind taking a spin in both of them. :p
skorpion317 08-22-2008, 01:43 PM As far as advertising goes, you could do worse than using a hot chick to promote your car.
However, if they're going to use a certain genre of music to promote the car, it had better be something along the lines of this:

Not that pop sh*t.

91Z28350 08-22-2008, 06:02 PM Great song! However, most likely not the image GM is going for with the new Camaro :) If they are going to use Rock 'N Roll (a natural) then something along the lines of Rock 'N Roll by LZ might be a good choice ("been a long time since I rock and rolled!")

JasonD 08-22-2008, 07:41 PM LOL...funny responses...
You guys know they they know they probably don't need to market to us much, right? They are probably shooting for a new market. I dunno if it is the best one, but hell...any marketing is good marketing. Right? Well...compared to next to no marketing for the 4th gen.
Right? Well....
;)
TrickStang37 08-22-2008, 08:14 PM the 4th gen had some marketing. i remember them always playing that commercial of a little kid identifying all the cars that passed by based on their exhaust and then some other kid asking him "Ya, but what color?" when he guessed right that it was a z28.
Jason Dove 08-22-2008, 08:56 PM The only commercial I recall for the 4th gen was the 'cup holder big enough for a Slurpee' while the car was doing a power slide... but I wasn't into cars back then, so I'm sure I saw more of them and just don't recall... then again I'm in Canada, so who knows if we got the rest up here.
It should have been, "cup holder in a spot where you won't want to drive a manual with a Slurpee, even though it will fit."

The best known 4th gen Camaro commercial, but was stopped in late 1995 or early 1996. There was little to no Camaro advertising of any kind after that.

Pruettfan 08-24-2008, 03:47 AM I can only hope that someone in GM messed up on the timing of this ad. I cannot think of a worse ad and worse timing. There is nothing appealing about this ad from a car enthusists or mainstream buyer point of view.

ChrisL 08-24-2008, 05:15 AM does anybody remember a mustang commercial? i dont. was there ever one??
Ford ran several Mustang commercials, including one featuring hte GT500 being unloaded from a freighter in Europe. There was also one in a corn field with Steve McQueen. Do a youtube search on Mustang commercial.
I'm already not liking what I see for the advertising of this car. I hope they wake up big time.

ForYourMalice 08-24-2008, 12:57 PM you just proved it was possible to do worse. That was trash.
Easy there, even if you're not a LoG/metal fan, there is no way you could say this is worse than anything Fergie has done. They play their own instruments extremely well, write their own music, are talented at what they do, and don't piss themselves on stage. Fergie has fourth graders write her lyrics and doesn't have an ounce of musicianship in her..
..now, back on topic.

sorry dude, it did sound like trash. I'm not a big Fergie fan, but her stuff is lighyears ahead of that, regardless of who writes it. I don't care if 'LoG' writes/sings/plays their own music, if it doesn't sound any good and 4th graders write better lyrics, then what the point of them making music.

I mentioned this in the very first Disciple Focus Group.
HuJass 08-25-2008, 05:45 AM "Back in Black" is too played.
It needs to be a more obscure AC/DC tune.
Like "Shot Down in Flames", "It's a Long Way to the Top if You Want to Rock & Roll", "Big Guns", etc.

they need to market to whats selling today, not what sold yesterday. they need to get ahold of today's consumer.

The one where a bunch of bikers move aside and let the red(as I recall) Z28 go through. It was nice, with the DRL's blazin' orange at dusk(again, as I recall). But the kids guessing cars were cooler.
Maybe they should do a remake!!:D
Pruettfan 08-25-2008, 03:37 PM If anyone has seen the ZR1 burnout video that was posted on SpeedTV the otherday I think you might agree doing something like that with the SS would be very cool and might appeal to the younger, drifting type crowd as well as us older folks. If the concentrate on performance and value rather than some of the gimmicks like 50cent they will be much better off. When they had 50cent pitch the G8 it was so fake that it was a total waste. Especially since he did so much with the Chrysler 300.
HuJass 08-25-2008, 04:23 PM they need to market to whats selling today, not what sold yesterday. they need to get ahold of today's consumer.
But I wonder what the target demographic for this car is.
I believe that the majority of people buying the new Camaro will be men in their late 30s to maybe as high as 60.
A lot of the guys in that group like, and can relate to AC/DC.
I bet a sales campaign with that music would test extremely well and resonate with the target consumers.

I suspect they will market to two demographics. They will sell many cars to guys over 30 that love Camaro and perhaps have had a history with the car in the past or always wanted one.
The second group will be the younger folks who would otherwise perhaps consider an import or Mustang. By making the V6 so stout I think this will be a compelling car. Also talk with any kid under 25 and most will say that the 69 Camaro is amoung the best of the muscle cars. This Camaro will be as close as most will get to a 69. If there is a solid aftermarket then I think the younger folks will see the potential.
I don't think Fergie however is going to sell any cars.
Chuck! 08-25-2008, 05:10 PM We'd be really good as a group creating a marketing campaign aimed at people who don't need convinced to buy the Camaro.
For what it's worth, the SS presence in that picture is exactly what I was looking for.

nexus6 08-26-2008, 10:11 PM Now here's my humble idea and this isn't what i listen to ,but i heard it at work and the chorus kinda caught me with the lyrics.i thought they would work for both Camaro AND GM.with the proper editing i think it could work out really nice.the lyrics im talking about are at the 40 second mark. i figure it would go like this . music in the backround lightly with no lyrics while the narrator does his thing(while Camaro speeding down a desert road).with close shots following it .and just as he finishes with what hes saying, raises the volume with the lyrics that are at the 40 second mark.and the shot widens out and eventualy the camera slows down to see it speeding off.
Please be kind, its only an idea i had.try not to flame me too bad :shame:
its also at the 1:50 mark and 3:29 with different energy in it

a famous (for now) musical artist. her music is wide ranging, it's kind of hard to place her in one specific genre, kinda quirky. the good thing is she isn't known as a strictly sex appeal type musical artist (she's not GREAT looking) so the people who do listen to her, really do like her for her music.
