73mpg hwy and that is US gallons. Just imagine the good press for Ford if this was sold in the USA. Seems like a no brainier, no wonder there are all the big oil + big 3 conspiracy theories.

The same conspiracy theories who drive 1980s 4x4 picup trucks?

They have plans to bring the Fiesta to the US market, but probably not before about a year and a half (come on!). There's also a chance that other Euro-models will come to the North-American market under the Mercury brand, probably manufactured in re-tooled truck and SUV factories.
The Big-3 are all have finacial problems will big oil is posting record profits. You think if they were in cohoots they would get a kick back somewhere. The reason gas sipping cars are not sold in the us is because up until 4 years go no one really wanted them and the automakers didn't have a lot of forsite.

Im sure this car will get less MPG once it comes to the US and they add a little saftey wieght and some more smogg control. Ford should be hurrying.

Don't think there ever was a "cohoots" between carmakers and big oil personally. Never found any kind of indicators for such a relationship.

Conspiracy theories - sure... but just theories IMO.

As for the Fiesta - I've been saying it for 2 years, and I won't stp now.
The European market has what we want/need. Has had it for a while.
This is why I think Ford is turning the corner - as elaborated in guy's other thread on that topic.

This car needs to come here PRONTO if Ford wants to grab lion's share of economic-based sales.

Yeah, right. If "Big Oil" and the Big Three were in cahoots, this vehicle would have never been developed at all, for ANY market.

You forget that safety and emissions equipment that HAS TO BE ADDED VIA LAWS will kill the MPG it gets in the U.S.. I mean look at what the U.S. version of the SMART car gets...

The crash safety regulations between Europe and USA are not as different as you might think. Aside from that, German Fords are all LHD out of the gate and the remaining conversions should not be that difficult.

Personally, I don't see any "regulations" cutting the mileage as it crosses the pond.
The bigger threat (in the past anyways) would be that Ford dopes the car down and "uglifies" it for the American market - which I hope Mulally has stopped.

I want the new Fiesta RS here NOW!

200 hp, minimalist, and out handles a 911... yep it'll never see the US as usual.

The factory that will be building it, is starting to be retooled as we speak. That it was a BOF truck factory, means that the retooling is much more extensive and time consuming.

I am sure that as soon as the plant is ready to go, the car will be here. I am also pretty sure, that if this can be earlier than the projected start-up date, you can bet your butt it will be. Mullaly is throwing alot of money at these plant retoolings, to get the vehicles here as quickly as possible.

Big fat Amen to that.

Diesel would be the ticket for me - unquestionably.
