he turns 70 later this year & has bought a big solid roller cam, built a 406 shortblock, & bought an s10 for the motor to go in. he also bought some AFR's, 210's with comp porting. what's the difference between the race ported ones & the comp ported ones. will they need any additional porting?

Here's a post from speed talk that might help...
...ALL the new 23' SBC head we offer are technically part of the new "Eliminator" line....its just that we offer two versions....the street version and the more expensive Comp version which flows a little more at the same port volume and has much finer CNC porting for more accurate results and a more aesthetically pleasing finer finish (the most important part of the Comp version is the finer level porting equals less material removal with every pass of the CNC cutter, and that means less tool deflection and a more accurate reproduction of the prototype port it was digitized from and meant to copy)....

It;s under 500, but Gen I heads can be converted. Most of the larger machine shops that mess with Lt1s can convert a set for you.
