Why won't it 60ft.??

Ok, so i took it to the track friday night, got a new best 13.55 @ 101.95 on a 2.0018 60ft., i tried different techniques but still nothing, i was told 1.8s no problem with my set-up, my best was a 1.99 but it turned into a bad run, whats happening is it is just laying over (bogging), unless i leave at a lower RPM & not dump the clutch & hammer it, i tried it at 5000 & dumped the clutch & got a slower 60ft., so i left at 4000 & didn't dump the clutch & it netted a better 60ft., The car is dead hooking every time so thats not the problem, i just don't think I'll ever see better then 1.9s out of it, it just doesn't recover (engine) fast enough once it hooks & boggs, could it be the DA/tune, it was in the 2500ft. range.

I am having the EXACT same problem. I made 10 runs with a 5krpm clutch drop and I'd bog down to 2200rpm every time. Even when I tried to feather the clutch it would still hook and bog.

I think our peak torque is at 4000ish rpm, so I'm gonna start leaving at that rpm and very slowly letting out the clutch.

I don't see how some are claiming 1.7 60fts with N/A bolt-on M6s with 4.11s & a 26" tire, i've even heard 1.6s are possible, well at least i don't feel like i'm the only one having this problem, i can see the A4 cars doing it, hell thats a no brainer, Stall/gears/stickies your there, this really sucks, i was also told the M6 cars are faster then the A4s, thats BS IMO, there is a bolt-on 94 Z28 A4 that runs at my track, he has less bolt-ons then me, but he has a stall/gears/MTs & runs 13.teens @ 102-103, his short times are 1.7s EVERY pass, pisses me off  The only way this cars going to 60ft. is a steeper gear, but that'll kill off the 1/4 times, i'm trapping at 52-5300 now, thats just about right with the stock cam.

you need a vid of it.

how is it reacting? what suspension is on the car etc.

The suspention is basically stock other then the LCA relacation brackets (bars are in the middle hole), tubular LCAs & Panhard bar, it seems to leave good, but its bogging the engine down enough to were it doesn't start really pulling untill the 60ft. is over, i am though at a Alt. of 1500ft. & DA was in the 2500ft. range, i'm sure that wasn't helping.

Stock shocks?. Your DA is good. We run alot in the 3000 DA.And pray for the 2500 DA. If you got the front sway bar still lose it. If on stock shocks get a good drag shock on all 4 corners if your a drag car only. Just my 2 cents

I used to pull 2.3 60' times in my old manual tranny 99 camaro. I put $1500 worth of suspension on it, to include QA1 shocks, all UMI hard parts, etc... After that, the car would constistently pull........................2.3 60's

I was at the track on friday, and I pulled a 1.85 60' on a mostly stock car, with street tires. I couldn't figure out how I did it. I just know that I did, and that the car is capable of it.

I think i need to stay in the power range of the engine when i leave, so i'm believing now i need to get a small spin (like 1 revalution) off the line so it doesn't bogg down near as much, but then hooks after then engine has a fighting chance & the car is in motion, if i add another 100 rwhp, there is no doubt it'll 60ft. much better leaving hard or put a BB in it lol, that'll give me some torque:D. This leaving @ 5-6000 & dumping the clutch ain't working at my HP level.

Now you're using your head. Air the Hoosiers up 'till they spin a little on your 4k dump launch and it'll leave way harder. It'll take a lot of trial and error to find that ''just right'' pressure but it'll work. Too little and it'll bog as you well know. Too much and it'll spin to far with equal results.

When we were doing the LT1 stuff, and had 4.10s, we had to dump it at 6k for it to take off, due to the weight (this was before huge weight reduction started) and even after we left at 6k with 4.33s but what really suprises people is that the car would run the 60' and 330' better if it spun some off the line, not alot but some, so as some have mentioned, air the tires up some.
Key is to have the most amount of air in the tire for it to hook the way you want it to, more air is less rolling resistance down track as well....
here is an example of some spinnage but a 1.5x 60'

What clutch are you running? Sticky tires will overwhelm a stock clutch. You should get like a little spin when you leave.

Something has to spin, it is easier if the tires spin, since we do not have much control over the LT1 style clutch set ups. We ran a stock replacement clutch (most of the runs) or a Spec Stage 2 (on 11.80 pass) for a Mustang, ie smaller diameter than stock LT1 by half inch i believe it was....

Shon, thats a nice video, thats exactly how i should be leaving & those tires spin more then 1 revalution too, but just enough to "sling shot" the car forward.

try slipping it, it may be just what you need. slip it with some wheel spin. I think thats what works best for me. Your car has tons left in it. It should be able to run 12.90's or low low 13's @105,107.

Maybe 103 tops lol, i'm sure its peter'd out around 102, but that should still be good for very low 13s, i'll go back this friday & start with 22-23 psi & try & spin these tires some, i really can't complain much, this old boat has everything in it (includeing jack & spare), 13.5s on a 2.0 in this air isn't shabby, especially with 158K miles & never having the VCs off, i'm sure its still on the original Opti & cap/rotor too

Should i get a 2 step limiter, a higher source highly recammended it for the best 60ft. times leaving at WOT, or is this just too hard on parts in my case?

I do not think it will do what you need. There are many other things to try before a 2 step....

How much?? I see Spohn has some nice tubular ones for 155.00 (19.00 shipping), they run them on a 7 sec. car with no problems, can you beat that price :D, if so, i'll buy them from you , do you have a contact #?

"Something has to spin" ...Or preferably slip :thumb: the clutch.
Doesn't someone make an adjustable clutch for the LT1s?

My adjustable (slipper type) clutch shaved 2/10s off my 60' .

---Bill.There has not been anything developed for the LT1 stuff that actually works the way it should as for as the slipping of the clutch goes.
if they would develop a cable type mechanism it would be alot helpful but nothing so far.
But do agree, if we could get a good clutch set up it would be best to let the clutch do the work as it does in the mustangs and older chevys....but until then, let the tires spin some.

It is alot of fun talking to the manual guys that run NMRA, they have the clutch figured out!!!
