scroll to the bottom and check out the 305 stroker kit.... is it worth it?

I was just given an 87 camaro with a beaten 305 in it and i'm gonna have to rebuild it. What should I get without getting any exotic parts? I want to put a 150HP shot of NOS on it so the motors gotta be able to take it....

Ideas?

Sure it's worth it if you like wasting your dough....it all depends on what you're looking to do with it man.

good point.... I want my 305 to be able to push 350 HP at the wheels... What would be the best way to do it?

To push 350 at the rear wheels you're gonna need to make about 400 at the flywheel. The easiest way to go is always cubic inches. They're cheap and you don't have to spin the motor to the moon (requiring more high priced parts).

I haven't built a motor smaller than 383ci in the last 2-3 years. And with good reason. It's the cheapest cost per cubic inch. Cheap 350 block, cheap cast 383 stroker crank, pistons readily available, etc, etc.

Forget the 305 block and the stroker kit. you can build a 383 for the same amount of money and end up with an extra 50 ci or so.

As for the other parts- what kind of combo are you running- carb? TPI? What trans?

The stock manual 5 speed trannie and I'm pretty sure that the car is carb, but I dunno. Its in California and I'm in denver. I'll be flying out in 2 months to pick it up and start working on it.

So what Cam would you guys recommend for a daily driven 305?

I have a Comp Cams 480/480 lift, with 210/220 duration at .050 lift.

That would be a nice cam for a daily driver. You'll also need stiffer valvesprings and I would recommend harder pushrods.

About the 335 stroker thing, I built it and I like it alot. The kit itself is pretty cheap, $599. Of course if you splurge for better rods, rings, and balancing like I did... it will come out to more money.
