Whos built a DIY A2W intercooler?Tricked-Out-Toy 08-05-2008, 03:18 PM Looking for some pictures of some DIY intercoolers. Geoff Chadwick 08-07-2008, 11:34 AM http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3149/2741799044_7898fdb470.jpg (Only pic I have at the moment) Inlet and outlet are 3.5" dia that has been slightly oval-ized. Core is like 3.5" or 4" thick, 3.5" tall, about 20" long. Outlet lines (in the front) go to in front of each wheel where a 10"x10"x3/4" heat exchanger with push fan is mounted. The two lines then merge and go back to the 5 gallon reserve cell in the trunk. Inlet is in the back of the intercooler, pointing sideways. The intercooler is 1/2" from the firewall, and since this picture, had tabs welded on to clamp it to the strut brace. Uses a Lightning Intercooler pump. Tricked-Out-Toy 08-07-2008, 11:56 AM Damn now thats some use of space! Im in the planning stages of an S480 build and I know Im doing A2W but since its a drag car I dont know if I want to just do and intercooler/ice tank all in one... Im not against going an Ice tank inthe back with a pump and a heat exchanger but I was thinking the larger Ice Tank/intercooler being all in one without any external resivours and pumps would be a little easier with the same benifits... slomarao 08-07-2008, 02:19 PM God, i could imagine working in that engine bay. Nice though, no way i could ever build something like that. Geoff Chadwick 08-07-2008, 10:51 PM The way its mounted and built, the heatshield and intercooler come off with only two seconds of work, and the hoses are long enough that the entire intercooler slides out a ways without disconnecting anything. Also, as it is higher than the reserve tank, after the car has been sitting a few minutes, the intercooler drains most of the way of fluid. But man plug changes are a nightmare, and during the first tuning session it was a royal pain. For that reason (and the minor amount of heat soak due to being above the engine) and a rather visually unappealing welding job, its getting replaced with something else. | ||
