I have a USB 16pin OBDI data link for my 95 camaro, and a computer in the car with TunerCat and DataMaster.
There is no light on the data link. I believe there should be on. I verifyed power on pin 16, and ground on pin 4 and 5.
Neither program can read anything off the car. with the key on but car not running. I have installed the drivers for the adapter

You must configure either program to the correct port or you will get nowhere.

well. I went out and night and found out that there is a light on in the adapter. so I think were all good there. I also verifyed that the drivers are installed for the adapter (in device manager, nothing has a question mark by it). I also tried every avalable port in the "Comm Port Setup" menu - then tried to read pcm but it wont.
Hmm. I tried to change to port in DataMaster also, couldnt find where to do it in there.
IS there a way to tell what port my USB plugs are?.
thanks

I dunno, my cable has a serial to usb adaptor built in to it. All of those programs are going to be looking for a serial port which the adapter emulates rather than a usb port.

For you to figure out what com your USB cable is, you can open up Device Manager, then expand the Ports (COM & LPT). You should see one on the list that says something like "USB Communications Port" and it will have the com port listed out to the side. If you right click on it and got to properties you should be about to change it to a different com port.
To Change the port in DataMaster you have to go to File then Record ALDL DATA.... then a new window will pop up and click on setup at the top and you can select the com port.

I just changed one and set the usb serial adapter to com port 3. and it worked in Datamaster and TunerCat.. Succes.. this fourm is great.. thanks everyone for the help!
