NHRA Summit Bracket Series "Runner-Up"

I’ve been racing in the Summit Bracket Series and No-Electronics class track points for the last five years. Our local track, like most tracks has some really great bracket racers and winning rounds there is never easy.

This past weekend I won five rounds (no buy-backs) and went to the finals for the first time this year! In the final round I had a .050 light to a .033 and could have possibly won with that light. However, for the first time all day my car didn’t run exactly on the dial (.032 over). I really wanted the win, although winning five rounds, going to the finals and getting runner-up was still really great for me! Also, I was paired-up with a very experienced racer in the finals (many time track points champion).

This season (I’m not really sure why) I got off to a really bad start winning rounds and wasn’t doing very well in the track points. My LTX powered 1997 Z28 has run great, so the car hasn’t been the issue (very consistent and reliable). But I’ve stayed focused this summer and I’ve been working very hard at my bracket racing. And, I seem to have turned everything around recently and greatly improved my round win ratio during the past five races.

So, this past weekend going to the final round was my first real shot at winning an event this year and I’m very happy about that!

Congratulations!!! :thumb: I know bracket racing week in and week out for points at a local track is much more grueling and difficult than people think. To go rounds against some very good drivers is something to be proud of. Keep up the great job!

Yes, you are correct! That is my car in the September issue of GMHTP and the LTX Shoot-Out article! :D

And, I'll be at the shoot-out again next year to race in the N/A Heads-Up class. It was a really great event and Tony Shepherd and his people did a super job planning and hosting the shoot-out. :thumb:

Here is a recent photo of my Z28.

Congrats for getting into the final round. Bracket racing is a very humbleing sport. Most who post here have no idea how hard it is to go rounds especially in the Summit series. Taking time shots is not "racing". Relax and try to carry everything you did right into the next event. I'm running the Summit series street class and I'm finding new ways to loose everyweekend.
