How many miles do you have on your 2002?

I've got a 2002 SS.

Right now, I've got roughly 9,400 miles - just did the third oil change.

Am I driving the **** out of this? lol. I work 10 miles away from home - maybe a bit less. I drive this mainly for pleasure... For the hell of it sometimes I'll go driving around and do a good 90-150 miles.

Am I truly insane? Please someone tell me they have me beat =)

I figure, if I'm paying so damn much for insurance (My own policy, 19 year old male) and so damn much for the payment (At least I got 0% interest), I might as well drive it!

Only 1700 miles here. I only drive it on nice days in the summer. My 89 S10 greatly reduces my insurance rates.

I picked up my new '02 Z28 in November 2001 and I've put 23,000 miles on it already. It's obviously a daily driver but it's still exciting to start up every day. Usually after a year the new car thrill is gone for me but not with this Z28. It makes my stupid commute tolerable.

I got my '02 WS6 on Dec 11th. Yep just two weeks ago and it was brand new off the Dealer lot. It has about 800 miles on it now and 400 of those are mine.

I got mine August 1st.. 8600 miles.. 7900 of which are mine.. my dad drove it from the dealer to me to rack up a 100 more.. it had about 600 on it when I got it.. was the dealers test drive mule I would suppose. hehe In any case, its all good.. I drive mine very much and come Jan 6th I am throwing about 3000 miles on it in 1 week.. woohoo!

I picked it up about 10 months ago with 4.x miles...50 miles a day just going to and from work has helped me rack up 14k miles so far. I love my Z but I hate putting a lot of miles on it so I really need to find another car for my daily.

I Bought my '02 Z28 on Sunday afternoon, July 28th, 2002 at Jim McKay Chevrolet. I remember it well. It had 8 miles on it. Now it has 2985. If the weather is nice I try to drive the Z28 2, maybe 3 days a week. Otherwise I drive my 93 Dakota. Thankfully, I have an option so I don't have to put on excessive daily commute miles. But the weekends all belong to the Z.

As a follow up, my door sticker says my car was manufactured in June of 02.

Does anyone out there have an August build? That would be cool.

Does anyone worry that some assembly line worker was pissed off about losing his/her job and purposefully did some substandard work in their last couple of weeks on the job? They wouldn't do that would they?

Yes and no...I do like (love) driving the car but 5-6 days a week, I'm just driving the car from A to B and back again, that's it. Those aren't the kind of miles I like putting on the car. I would rather drive the car (put miles on it) because I want to, not because I have to. Maybe that's just me though.

Pick up my SS on 11/29/01 now has 14,300. A lot of highway mile's from many trips from Atlanta to Birmingham also added about 1200 to go the f-body gathering in Bowling Green last Sep. The rest of the time I like to just go out and admire it in the garage:D

I may not have the most overall (since some of you have had your's for over a year now), but I'm racking up the miles pretty quick:rolleyes:. Since June 26th (6 months yesterday!!:D) I've put on 18,200km, which is ~11,300miles (already!! ). I absolutely love driving the car though, and I certainly take any opportunity I can get just to go for a drive;) (even if it's just to the corner store and back!:p). Also, why wouldn't I want to daily-drive it?? It's usually the nicest car I see on the road (while I'm driving it!:D), and why would I want to drive something I don't like as much (since I don't like anything as much?! ).

My 2002 has exactly 2,152 miles on it as it currently sits in storage for the nice salty winter here in Chicago. :( It was bought brand-new(with 31 miles) back on July 5th of this year.

And the miles will stay low for now on as it won't be my daily-driver anymore once it comes out of storage in the spring(have another car). But I'll definitely enjoy it whenever I can.

Yup, the door sticker on mine says 8/02. I've managed to convince myself that will make my car that much more valuble if I ever lose my mind and sell it :p

As for sabotage, rumor has it that the internal quality audits during the last few weeks were some of the best ever for Ste. Therese. Sure those guys were losing that particular job, but they're Union. Most of them are probably still collecting 90% salary and full benefits, and are first in line to work at Oshawa, the best auto plant in NA (so says the Habour report).

Anyway, my '02 was picked up August 16th about four hours after it came off of the transporter. Delivered at 3 miles; I think it's sitting at 4,945 now. It'll be there until next spring, when the crappy MI winter bids us farewell.

casebuzz,

I don't know how much this could increase you car's value but I agree that owning one of the last 'classic' Camaros to come down the line is at least 'nostalgically' valuable.

Your sig says your car was built, 'Aug. 6, 2002'. Where did you get the exact date from. I didn't think that the exact date was ascertainable. Was yours a special order?

My car was built May 22 2001. If you have your build sheet, it says there. If not, the dealer can pull one up for you on their computer.

02 WS6, 3561 miles as of today, picked up Sept 30 2002, build date 7/29/02 one of the last 1000 WS6s to come off ASCs line  build number 11277
As for the quality so far aside from the piston slap, it's tight, no squeeks, no rattles, no leaks, and the paint has ALOT less orange peel than the 02 SS i was looking at

 Definitely cool.

When I was shopping around for my Z in late July, I didn't know when the build-out was to occurr. And then a couple of dealers scared me by saying, "you'd better hurry up, there aren't many left". I was also worried about getting the exact car that I wanted. That's when I dove in.

Also, do you mean THE 'piston slap'?

I thought piston slap was a problem in '97-'01 engines. I remember reading somewhere that sometime in '01 there was a fix to the LS1/LS6 piston- something about piston-to-bore clearance and new pistons or skirts.

Can anyone confirm that this problem was taken care of?

Well you're welcome to listen to my diesel TA :D AFAIK they really haven't done much if anything to fix the piston slap, tho it does go away when the car warms up, and the dyno shows 324 hp:D so I'm not too concerned about it.

As mentioned above, any dealer can pull up you build sheet. I'm guessing that the "build date" is the day it went through final inspection, as it takes more than a day to build the car.

I'd want to know the build date if I were you. Besides, it gives me something to throw up there (along with the 8/02 door sticker) whenever some snobby SS owner starts babbling on about his unique build number :p

casebuzz,
Yeah, I found my build sheet. My build date is 6/13. I agree that this date has to represent a final inspection or something. I read somewhere that it takes 4 days to build a Camaro (or used to anyway).

Okay, how about the build number. You mentioned your build number is 11277. Did you get this from the VIN?

casebuzz
12-29-2002, 09:46 AM
Not sure where I mentioned a build number, because I certainly don't have one. That's the one area those pesky SS guys have us in ;)

The closest thing we could get to a build number is the last six of the VIN. That's not that great of a number to use though, as I'm not sure where the sequencing started and there aren't different sequences for all of the different f-cars. If you could find out where the sequence started in 2002 you would be able to figure out what number 2002 f-car you have, but not much else.

In all honesty, I learned my build date kinda by accident. I bought the car after orders could be placed, but way before it got to the dealer. The saleswoman told me the car actually hadn't been built yet, so I had a coworker who used to be a manager at Ste. Therese call up there to see if they could use my car for an internal audit - basically get a very detailed inspection. Too bad the car had been built a couple of days prior, otherwise they would've caught the 1/8" difference in hatch and rear quarter height :(

casebuzz,
Sorry, the build number came from RamAirBird2k2, an SS of course. But thanks for the info. I suspected I wouldn't get far trying to get a build number for the Z. It would still be cool to know.

The build number for a WS6 Trans Am tells you that your car is the xxxxx th TA to be converted to WS6 specs, so if you know the final WS6 production numbers for the year, you can tell if the car was built early in the year or late. For 02 there were 12xxx WS6s built and mine is the 11277th one to go down the line at ASC, if you do the math, mine is actually the 9xxth from the end of the 02 production run.
I don't know if Chevy has an equivalant to Pontiac historical services, but for the Pontiac owners on this site, they can provide a wealth of info about your Pontiac, although it does cost for this service.

And how dare you call my WS6 an SS :p

Oshawa builds extended-cab, short-box, full-size pickups --- Chevy and GMC, and I think we also build either Impala's, or Monte Carlos, or maybe both?? --- I can't remember? AND, there's a battery plant here too. As well, Lear is right down the road from the truck plant, and they make all (or most) of the seats for GM.

I think a couple of them were included in the last Harbour report. I know the W-car facility was one of them. Keep in minf that the Harbour report is based on productivity, not how nice a place it is to work. The W-car isn't too shabby when it comes to quality either.

As for Oshawa, I always thought the areas around Toronto were kinda nice. Go figure. :D

For the most part it's not too bad:rolleyes:, but it certainly has its "less popular" areas;). I'm in Courtice which is right on the east side of Oshawa, and it's actually pretty nice here, except there's not much to do, so for a good night on the town, you have to go to Oshawa at least, or for a real good night, then T.O. is the place (but it's ~45 minutes away to downtown Toronto).
