I have seen a couple 454 LSx engines, but they seem to be with an iron block. anyone know if the Al block would accept the power levels, while still being reliable enough for a DD? I am thinking ratgher than take the weight of a LSA, might be fun to buy a SS/RS and stroke and bore the motor to 454 cu. in.

The iron 454's you're seeing are LSX blocks
If you wanna stay aluminum, you could stroke the LS3 to somewhere between 412-420 cubes...or just go LS7
With emissions not in mind...
LSX 454...potentially 620whp n/a
could make between 530-550whp with the LS7 or stroked LS3

JakeRobb 07-26-2008, 10:13 AM Not sure if this is clear... GM Performance Parts sells an aftermarket block that is actually called the "LSX". The 454's you're seeing are built with that block, not a bored/stroked iron block from a truck.
The LSX is actually pretty impressive. Supports up to 510 cubic inches, supposedly good to 2500hp. If I were building a race car, that's exactly where I'd start.

A 427" LSX can be built to make 900hp naturally aspirated. A 454 or 500" could potentially make more.

The LS3 is a 6.2L with a 4.065" bore and the same 3.625 stroke as the LS1/2/4/6 and every 5.3 and 6.0. I guess you could increase the stroke to 3.8" and hone it out to 4.07 to get 396" but a 4" stroke crank fits fine to get over 415cid.

Cool, so it's possible to make the car a little more historically accurate. Not to mention kick a little more ass.
As for the 454... I don't know that I'd want to get involved with engine transplant on a car that has more monitors than a POW camp. Something isn't going to be right once everything is all said and done. But I suppose the same thing can be said for any other mods you do on this beast...

This is exactly what TSP does, you can either pick up a 416 LS3 or a 427 LS3. I'd look into either of these choices and some TFS 235 or L92 heads. You can use the Fast LSX or LS3 intake and make some real power, usually in the 510hp and 480tq range. Just check out the dyno results on ls1tech :D
