Exhaust, Cat, O2 sensor issues

It's been awhile sense I have been back on this board due to spending the last 4 years in college and hardly driving my 96 Z. I am throwing code P0420 which deals with the left side cat/ 02 sensor. I am thinking of removing the cat and welding in a dynomax bullet muffler. I would still be running a cat on the passenger side. Does anyone have experience with this? Would I be messing up some sort of balance of pressure with only having one cat installed. Also, if this set up does work, anyone know the part number of the correct Bullet to buy? I am running on the stock manifolds. The only upgrade is my LoudMouth which obviously is attached beyond the cats.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am currently getting ~15 or 16 miles to the gallon and I am guessing that it has something to do with this code.

I would hop on ebay and pick up some carsound cats. THey are made my magnaflow, pretty cheap $50,60. They flow well and will be a much better option than running a cat on one side and and bullet on the other.

Have you got a pcm tune? You can have the cat tuned out. That may be another option. I wouldnt go cat/bullet.

Do you have a part number on a carsound cat that would work? It is a product line of magnaflow if I remember right. Also, I can't remember what size the piping is on the stock Y-pipe. I am thinking it is 2.75". I guess I would need a 2.75" inlet/outlet for the cat. Anyone know how long though?

I have one. Pretty sure its a 3inch in and out. Only mod the time was flowmaster AI. Their not that long, actually they are very small.

Idk on the part number, just search "carsound cats" and you should find plently.
